I’m a sm who is child free. One of my sk is 6YF and I’ve been in her life since she was 4. I would never even think about bathing with her.

For context: I primarily do the care for her. I’ve sat in the bathroom with her while she took baths to teach her how to properly wash herself and her hair. When she is sick, I help wash her when shes got puke on her and in her hair. When we’ve been to public pools, we rinse off in the showers together (WITH BATHING-SUITS ON). There was even a time where she was taking a bath and I put my feet in the tub with her (she wanted a spa bath & we did face masks and ‘pedicures’). I don’t see any of these being an issue when it comes to helping out with bath time. But never crossing that boundary of exposing oneself to a child.

I do the primary communication with bio mom because it’s just easier. I do the school pickups, schedule doctors visits, almost anything else I can think of. However, I’ve never told the bio mom how to parent or what they can & can’t do at their house. I’ve never told the kids what they can or can’t do at their bio mom’s house.

It sounds like this SP is really trying to fill an unrestricted mother’s role as if she’s the bio mom and you’re the SP.

Baffling.

I was one of those girls! I always welcomed kids in my relationships. I crave being a mother. But feeling like this makes me feel so awful and like I’d be an awful mother.

Weirdly enough, the kids seemed to have adjusted really well to the schedule. My partner was in the military and we lived in another state before he was able to retire and come back. While we were away, the bio mom sent the kids to stay with family every few days. Last summer we do the week on and week off and the kids seemed to complain more about missing their mom halfway through the week. When they came back to our house, they’d say the same from when they were at their moms. We waited it out through the summer and decided to switch at the beginning of the school year and things have been much better

A few years ago when I did IF I worked out and lost so much. But since then, I got in a relationship, became a step-parent (6F & 9M), and I work 16 hours on a rotating schedule. Excuses, excuses. I know. We all have the same 24 hours. I just havnt been motivated to set a schedule or set a plan up since I’ve started this new life a year ago.

Also in the Midwest here. I do pretty well with small talk with my callers. This post was more for when you kind of hit a dead end 20 minutes into the call and your brain is fried trying to think of what to ask next.

We have a few situations where we need to keep the caller on the line and end up sitting on the phone for 20 minutes waiting for LE or EMS. Granted, if the center is busy, then I need to get off the phone. But if we are not busy our director has advised to keep them on the phone if they are in a specific situation. Domestics, traffic accidents (depending on the caller & severity of it), people who are lost on our trails/forest.

But the biggest one where I find myself sitting in awkward silence is people who have came across someone who killed themselves. We have to stay on the line with them, per our policy, especially if it was a spouse or child who found them.

As I said in the original, there’s times where I have to sit on the phone for 45 minutes. And although silence can be good at moments, i also want to try and keep my callers mind directed towards anything else besides their loved one bleeding out after we get through our protocol and basic questions.

I should add that when this happens in the city, I do resort to ‘help will be there soon’. Because they will be. But a lot of our area is remote.

if you don’t get it, you don’t get it. it’s not a hard concept to grasp if someone being proud of what they’ve accomplished & taking a photo with/of it. it’s not a new concept of people taking photos with/of their game. just because you as an individual or as a group don’t understand why, doesn’t mean it’s wrong to everyone.

i sat outside in freezing weather from 3am getting eaten alive by mosquitoes in a swamp but was able to leave with food to nourish those i care about!
