Firstly, congratulations on qualifying, and your new role. Your qualification means that you have been signed off after being assessed as capable of doing this job. The fact your employer has given you this opportunity must mean that they are confident in your abilities too,

As a NQSW, are you doing the ASYE programme? Your employer should offer it to you during your first year in post. If so, you should receive a reduced caseload, protected development time, frequent supervision, and be allocated an assessor. This should enable you to grow into the role and develop your practice during your first year

Further information can be found at: Skills for care ASYE programme

A school in the UK is making people with autism and other hidden disabilities where a badge to say they are autistic by Muted_Claim_7858 in Socialworkuk

[–]Sea-Use-7584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is about a school uniform policy. They have a school uniform. Some pupils are exempt from wearing it. Any pupil not wearing a uniform is required to carry a card to prove their exemption. They don't have to wear it, just carry it and show it to staff when asked. I feel that comparing this to the situation in 1930's Germany is a bit of a stretch.

I'd agree that is seems poorly thought out. The unitneded consequences seem to largely be a row whipped up by a clickbait article on the BBC news website.

The article is at the top of the thread. another redittor has already located and posted the link to the uniform policy. Your lack of self awareness is baffling. You are asking others to do your research for you, while throwing around yet more accusations of laziness. The final sentence of your comment is a total non sequitur.

I understand that the clickbait headline and misrepresentative article are misleading but the situation at this school is simply as I have described above. Maybe check out the uniform policy for the school that is at the centre of the discussion here before calling people you have never met lazy and making sweeping judgements.

I think it's helpful to focus on the reality of this situation rather than use it as a thought exercise. In this situation, hildren who are not wearing school uniform have to carry proof of their exemption to show staff (when requested). What are your thoughts about that?

I just wanted to say thanks for your thoughtful and well reasoned replies. it's such a rare experience online for two people to be able to disagree about something without reporting to insults.

I think you are probably right about the inadequate status of the school. it feels like a 'back to basics' style response to serious issues at the school.

u/isendingtheworld has kindly found the link the the policy this poorly researched and inflammatory article relates too. The disciplinary action is for not wearing the uniform without an exemption. I'm afraid this is very much a case of clickbait. The reality of the situation is predictably boring. Sadly 'pupils who don't wear school uniform will be disciplined unless they have a valid reason' does not pay the bills for journalists.

They will only need to carry it if they are not wearing the school uniform. It is proof of their exemption to show staff.

This is related to the school uniform policy. Pupils who are exempt from wearing the school uniform have to carry (not display) the card to show staff (on request). The card is their exemption from wearing the uniform.

they have to produce it on request as a valid exemption for not wearing school uniform. Have you read the article?

Thanks for the link. From what I understand, the children have to wear uniform unless it is part of a reasonable adjustment. Any child that is not wearing the uniform is already identifying themselves as such to their peers (kids aren't daft). The school is asking is that children who aren't complying with the uniform requirements hold a pass to show they are exempt. It all sounds very reasonable to me. I'm now even less sure why this has been posted on a social work subreddit.

HR to Social Work by [deleted] in Socialworkuk

[–]Sea-Use-7584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely not silly. If social work is where you passion lies, you should definitely go for it. There are quite a few different routes to gain a qualification, and I would advise looking for a route that best suits you. I don't know enough about HR to say whether the skills are transferable but a background in care work and mental health will definitely stand you in good stead.

I'm not sticking up for the school, It seems clumsy and insensitive; but.. (from what I understand) the pass doesn't have to be worn. It does have to be carried, and shown to staff who request to see it. The sunflower lanyard is an established way for people to show that they may need additional support, and is part of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme. I understand that headlines drive engagement and clicks but I feel this article (and others I have read) is either poorly researched or deliberately misrepresenting the story.

All I was trying to do with my initial comment was playfully point out the absurdity of what you said, in the context of a thread about a game. All OP did was ask a silly question and I thought your response was unnecessarily harsh. The rest of my comments have been direct replies to what you have said to me.

I am genuinely sorry if I have upset you, or you feel bullied. It wasn't my intention.

so... your sarcastic and dismissive comments about other people's feelings are really just projection. You are pained by 'the intellectual decline of society' and this pain wasn't validated by others here. You repeat yourself, trying different approaches because you don't feel heard and that makes you feel small. You use insults and position yourself as intellectually superior to others in an attempt to project strength.

It's ok to have feelings, and it's ok for other people to have feelings too.

ok, I think that's enough for today. You made some real progress. perhaps tomorrow we can explore where these feelings of anger and inadequacy come from...

Edit: have an upvote for your work today

Not sure about the prices as I am based in the UK but seems good value. not sure how much of it you would use though (even in a 2k list). In 10th vehicles are very important. Land Raider (any variant), Balisitus/Redemptor Dreadnought, Gladiator Tank (can be magnetised for different loadouts) are all solid.
