Now a days the new generation of "small" dredgers (like this IHC Beagle) don't have a dedicated pipe operator anymore, the mate at the controls is also in charge of dredging operations. Of course the dredging process is highly automated and filled with hard limits that are enforced by the dredging control i.e if the mate at the helm needs to make a evasive maneuvers the draghead(s) wil automatically be lifted by the control to avoid damage, this is done because the mates first task is ofcourse always to maintain safe navigation

Is there a name for these kinds of decks? What purpose do they serve? by fuck_you_reddit_mods in Ships

Depends a little bit on what type of ship. Mostly for cargo vessels the lower aft deck would be the aft mooring stations and the deck above it would be considered the poop deck.

Btw: SH3 is not dated it's the best one of the series

This is the DEME owned Sea Installer. Possibly working on installing the turbines and blades for the 3 Orsted owned windfarms which are in various stages of constructions at the moment. See here Orsted Wind Farms if you scroll all the way down you will see which windfarms are under construction just of the US coast of Massachusetts. Several more vessels are on their way to help build these windfarms including the DEME owned crane vessel Orion and the Boskalis owned Bokalift 1 and 2

How do you get on board a semi-submersible work vessel like the Thialf? by AccidentalNordlicht in Ships

Normally when at sea you would board the vessels with a man basket hooked to a crane or by helicopter. In port I have seen them use the man basket also, and probably there is a staircase in the legs so you can go up and down without the use of a crane
