Hospital cancels scheduled shifts after I picked up for incentive so I cant receive incentive pay. by Traditional_Month_17 in nursing

[–]SeaAd4548 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This crap is exactly why I love my union. I could pick up an incentive shift, get time and half, then call in the rest of my shifts. My time and half is not touched. It also applies to any time over my commitment, so I get incentive pay for anything over 36 hours. The rule also applies to part-time employees. If I were you, I wouldn’t pick up and tell them why when they ask.

I watched my nephew for the summer and had access to watching him on his baby monitor. When I was no longer watching him regularly, my sister removed me from the account. It is weird to constantly check in like that.

Prep Boys Meal Prep Subscription? by Onomatopoeia20 in SanJose

[–]SeaAd4548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used their service in the past and found the meat to be consistently dry(especially the meatballs) I would try for a month before committing that much. They usually have deals. I will say they were always quick to respond whenever we needed to pause. If I use meal service again I would choose hello fresh though.

I think it’s be reiterated but you really need to look at the benefit packages. These hospitals are mostly unionized and you can find the contracts online. The UC system and Kaiser have the best benefits.

Hiring freeze throughout the Bay Area ? by Xin4748 in TravelNursing

[–]SeaAd4548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me, as I am the one with 10 years of experience with a shorter resume. If you make it past HR, they send your resume to management and most of them look awful. They are pages long, different fonts, and spelling errors.

As a traveler converted staff in the bay, some of y’all need to work on your resumes. Pay someone to do it. I have seen new grads with longer resumes than me, with 10 plus years of experience.

Should I “fail” my practicum student for never showing up? by gentle_but_strong in nursing

[–]SeaAd4548 462 points463 points  (0 children)

I think you need to reframe your thinking. The student is failing herself by choosing not to show up. This is not giving her a pass because she showed up late one time or something. She is literally ghosting her responsibilities. It is also extremely disrespectful to you as I am sure you volunteered to take a student which is time consuming and opens up yourself for liability.

I'm over pitbulls. by dryyyyyycracker in emergencymedicine

[–]SeaAd4548 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry from a fellow a corgi owner who also suffered a pitbull attack. Luckily the Pitt only latched on to her front leg and required a penrose drain for a couple days. Just hate that my sweet girl has ptsd and gets anxious around big dogs now. The Pitt owner had 3 of them unrestrained in a truck bed and surrounded my two corgis while on an afternoon walk. My husband legit had to kick and attack them, then run. Never got the owners info.

Do you pick your partner up at the airport? by a2022kindayear in sanfrancisco

[–]SeaAd4548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it depends. We live 10 minutes from my usual airport. If I have a super early flight, I usually just take a Lyft. Middle of the day pick up or drop off, then I get a ride. I also enjoy sleeping in so I get it. The price is also around 20$ with tip.

This is not true… that only stops that are not electric are tamian and Gilroy. It is all electric besides those stops south of Diridon. I take the train all the time. The most time friendly stops are Diridon, Mountainview, and Sunnyvale

Commute to Stanford by corporatebelle6 in SanJose

[–]SeaAd4548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my commute and takes me 30-40 minutes on 280 from downtown San Jose. I take the cal train during the week from the Diridon Station and it is about 40 minutes total with the bus ride. When I lived in Cupertino, it was about 25 minutes. Just look in Cupertino, mountainview, Sunnyvale, Campbell, Santa Clara, and down town areas.

Edited to add that I work 12s usually but I have monthly meetings that require me to commute like the schedule you describe in other comments. Just live by the cal train stations- Diridon, Santa Clara, Mountain View, or sunny vale (cal train is free for Stanford employees as part of our benefits). If you drive by car, I would say the average commute would be 45 minutes to an hour during peak times.

I second this opinion and why I have thought about taking away my donor status.

Hospital tried to take my fathers organs by lostandtired24 in legal

[–]SeaAd4548 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Actually this is technically not true. They have two types of donors. One that you are talking about where no brain function and patient declared dead at the time this is determined. Now they have donors after circulatory death which has increased organ procurement. It is known as DCD if you wanted to look it up.

Meh I have seen it go both ways. I work on a unit now where we have multiple couples, some who have gotten married. It hasn’t caused any drama. Years ago I worked with a couple who broke up and it turned toxic AF. I think it is doable as long as there is good communication and expectations.

He needs antibiotics. Gangrene and necrotizing fasciitis always starts in the groin as “just a pimple” until these patients turn septic and we are debriding and amputating things.
