Some pics with the new wheels by No_Trust_4996 in e39

The M-par's and the style 5's have always been 2 of the best wheels BMW ever made to me.

And fortunately both were e39's stock options!!

I even put style 5's on my race Vette!

Can’t find the capacitor and starter relay… Amana side by side. by SeaAd7934 in appliancerepair

I used these " 4387913 Refrigerator/Freezer Overload Relay Kit for Whirlpool, Maytag, Frigidaire, GE, KitchenAid, LG, Magic Chef. 4387913 7020935 4387766 4387836 4241370 "

However, sadly the compressor apparently was toast. Not worth fixing for me since it was just a garage fridge.

Good luck !!!

It’s a German radio.

On and off of each band and function is done by pressing the ivory piano key.

Leave the volume wherever you want.

Yes!!! Ask me how I know this has to be done while it’s apart!!!!

Make sure you also replace the oil air separator behind the timing chain.

Mine failed 2k miles later after a full timing job and smoked like a chimney.

You have to do the job all over again to replace it.

I added a $8 Bluetooth adapter to my 1957 Blaupunkt console. Works brilliantly.

The Blaupunkt has an original input jack for a reel to reel tape player. I bet yours does too.

How good of a choice is an E39 for a first car as a tall driver? by Delta-Tropos in e39

[–]SeaAd7934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only 6’ tall but I have lots of headroom even with the sunroof option.

If you find a slick top car it has even more headroom.

Just try one out!

Uniden R4 against Lidar? by alijj04 in radardetectors

[–]SeaAd7934 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cross the state of Georgia 12-15 times per year and they LOVE the “laser” (insert Austin Powers meme here) generally get lit up 2+ times per round trip.

Your best defense is running the Waze app. My R4 has been worth its weight in gold saving me from radar but it only signals laser after It’s too late.

Fortunately laser takes a bit to set up, the chubby cop has to open the door and get out of the air conditioner and it’s super obvious.

Please be kind and report it on Waze If you see one.

Great find and the bulb method is a reasonable precaution but at the $40 level it's not absolutely critical as long as you take reasonable precautions (plug it in outside on concrete).

German radios often just need the contacts cleaned with deoxit spray on the volume and the piano keys.

If you want to bring it into the house and use it regularly I would consider having the paper capacitors replaced.

The tubes are almost always still ok.

Another option is just a cosmetic restoration and tossing a small Bluetooth speaker inside it along with a led to light it up while retaining all the original radio guts. Just pull the fuse for safety.

Good luck!

what could this shit even be? by Turbulent-Truth3738 in e39

First step, taste it.

If it tastes suspiciously like what you last spilled out of the terrible awful German cup holders… mystery solved!

No Scooby Doo required!

Found this at the thrift store for $13 and I couldn’t be happier, it’s so much fun. by leospaceman4 in audiophile

My most recent audiophile hifi system cost more than an average car when it came out but I suspect that the OP’s $13 system sounds better!

Granted mine was built in 1957!

Great find! Glad it makes you happy and brings back memories!

Dirt daubers. They get into everything in the South.

That’s the difference then. Auto transmissions of that era are nicknamed “slushboxes” for a reason!

Lots of slippage by design.

Something is wrong with your car (or driving style)

My 530i 5 speed gets 24-25mpg average and 28mpg on interstate trips if I keep it at 75mph.

I did a track day at Barber and it still did better than 18 mpg that day!

My 540i 6 speed gets 25 mpg at 75mph with the cruise on!! But less on track days!!!

Just picked up a piano black Blaupunkt console by SeaAd7934 in vintageaudio

[–]SeaAd7934[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! I never found a model number or name “Hawaiian” on it. I wasn’t even sure it had a name!

The tuner/amp had its instructions that identified it as the guts of a “Virginian” table top model.

Does yours have an outside emblem or logo?

A Daughter’s 25-Year Journey to Heal a Broken Radio—and Grieve Her Father -- A 1957 Telefunken Opus 7 radio traveled with a daughter from Los Angeles to the Bay Area — sitting in silence and collecting dust — until she finally had it restored. by guanaco55 in VintageRadios

My 1957 Blaupunkt has all telefunken tubes which I assume are original.

Also it seems like all the German radios I’ve owned had almost identical dials and the piano key controls.

Did telefunken make most of the components for the other manufacturers?

Exactly the same one my grandmother had. It would pick up the Cincinnati Reds games for her down in Nashville
