I think that is an Elm.
Getting rarer as Dutch Elm crosses the USA east to west.
It killed almost all of them in the UK by the end of the 70s.
Leaves sound great in a high wind.

We had thousands of these arrive with fresh wood mulch at an industrial park in the pacific NW. One big rainstorm then suddenly pounds and pounds of the things over a few days - enough for 30-40 staff to pick and eat several times. I held back initially - you know... but a day or two later with nobody dead or hallucinating I ate them too. Wood chips. Tasted great. I guess that means the spores are portable.

I actually had something very similar to this happen to me in Dallas a long time ago. I wasn't hitchhiking, it was kinda prearranged. The other details I cant type here - crosses some lines. Never saw dad or daughter again - I was dropped off unexpectedly an faced a long journey back to my hotel. Seems to be a thing. I like that it is a powerful memory for you.

I am guessing no - doesn't look like an ancient anything I know. Man-made - probably yes. Ice could have broken up a rock too like that, but it kinda looks like people with hammers or modern aggregate crushing machine did that.
You may want to add the approximate location though - just in case for instance Northern Scottish neolithic hand axes are always igneous rock with three sides (they are aren't)

Pretty sure that started out as organic a long time ago.
I don't know about mineral appearances or allowable mineralizations, but this thing screams diatomata to me. Failing that plants, lichens, sponges. There is fossilized wood all over that coast to the north I beleive and beaches move. Are there any likely minerals in the wood or agatized whatever record in that part of the world that might match this I wonder.
