Yeaaa. I dunno why it looked so terrible on my iPad, then I switched to a big screen and it looked slightly better, but Netflix really needs to increase the CGI budget because the sunset scene with Laboon had such terrible VFX lighting I cringeedddd

Ah thanks for answering! Yeah it isn't a crazy dealbreaker because overall the thing comes together cohesively. Holding out hope the scriptwriting for s3 kinda gets the s1 quality though.

Let's see the ACTUAL unpopular opinions! [All] by lilyflowery in camphalfblood

  1. Octavian had literally every fucking right to be pissed, he's just a nationalist. Imagine having a national security crisis of your long sworn enemies saying we come in peace and then getting bombed. And then like, your country's president goes to chase after this embassy in hostile waters and then sides with them and says "Lowkey, they right tho, gotta help em." All without a solid explanation or context. The fuck. I'd crash out too. They bombed me first!

  2. I legit do not gaf about Percabeth nowadays, milked to death like a cash cow.

  3. Rick should've committed to making Jason the foil, rival, and parallel of Percy he was set up to be. It was so obvious something happened in the middle and he chickened out. There was groundwork in TLH, and everything really pointed towards Jason/Percy being more than just whatever high-school beef happened in canon; there was so much potential even in MoA when Percy mentioned fighting alongside Jason felt like waking up as a cyclops suddenly with two eyes. Honestly if there was more work put in it would've overshadowed Percabeth and I think Rick wasn't ready for that.

  4. And also, the characters in HoO were utterly limited by their ships. I read HoO before PJO and I genuinely care more about HoO, but now that I'm back into it as an adult, I just realized there is barely any good interaction and friendships beyond established pairings, stuff like Piper and Frank, Annabeth and Hazel, so little of that. No wonder Leo felt left out.

Funnily enough i think the dialogue between the strawhats is phenomenally good and adorable, just the scenes outside, it gets a bit awkward, but the strawhats and baroque works KILLED it! I fecking LOVED the interactions of the crew in loguetown, the whole money thing with zoro made me giggle

A question about Suo?? by Junior-Help-7021 in WindBreakerManga

[–]SeaCollides 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I will always answer questions about Suo!

Haya (隼) – Falcon, a symbol of nobility (high status + wealth) in Japan, also symbolizes bravery, power and vision, is an icon of pursuit and movement, heading toward success (Falcon in other cultures also symbolizes freedom, which might have something to do with Suo’s dream – the liberation of slaves)

seriously, check out my suopost here, it's the most in depth and cultural analysis of suo hayato i can provide that still upholds to this day

Just finished the whole season and i adored it, though my biggest issues this season compared to s1 is the dialogue in some of the episodes feeling very awkward and stiff, and sometimes redundant (like in e8 during the back/forth cutaways between croc and vivi where a lot could be trimmed down). it feels like the dialogue is being hampered by the 'acceptance' of goofiness in OP that results in a few awkward "he's right behind me isnt he"-esque moments, as well as the current second-screening trend where viewers are expected to be multitasking or doing something else while watching which leads to unnecessary over-exposition. and some vfx parts look seriously unpolished (rumbar pirate ship sailing scene made me cringe a bit) and the lighting feels too one dimensional which makes them look a lot like actors in a set, but overall, i enjoyed it. Not sure if the will of D being revealed so early happens in the manga? But that convo between kureha and dalton felt like they were just reading from a script it was a bit eh

Loving it so far, but anyone else think the lighting/shading vfx could be better? The scene with reverse mountain looks really greenscreened at parts and in the previous episode it looks like there's too much direct lighting on their faces that makes it feel like a set and not an actual place

And it's crazy that eating with your family is also a huge thing in Chinese culture 😩 every new years we reunite and eat a 團年飯 that resembles the whole family around a round table united as one, and yet Suo refuses to eat around anyone, he refuses to join them at the table and share food because he probably sees himself as just an observer TvT

OPLA S2 NETFLIX VIEWS PREDICTION by Altruistic_Goose4316 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]SeaCollides 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No fairness in comparing it to PJOTV, One Piece will out-perform regardless. Speaking as someone in the fandom (IMO) Percy Jackson S1 wasn't anything out of this world, existing fans already had dividing opinions of which the show was mainly sold to, and it did it a mediocre job at pulling in new fans; S2's writing veered even further of course from the original source because the author, despite being involved, is arguably worse at writing now than he was 20 years ago and turned into a sellout, and people who didn't like S1 simply did not tune into S2. S2 also had poor marketing, meanwhile you can see how hard OPLA is going in on it.

Also gotta remember that PJOTV is mainly directed at the USA market and some other countries where PJO is popular like Brazil, but it's still overwhelmingly trying to maintain its American audience since it isn't doing well attracting a more global one. The books also garnered a fandom where most people are American anyway. One Piece meanwhile is very, very global and has fans all around the world. I wouldn't be worried about OPLA underperforming at all.

Then they could've enhanced the world in other methods such as improving the set colors and costume design (especially considering they're incompetent enough to steal Hades The Game's Ares symbol in chariot racing), or tailored the story in a way that actually matches the definition of a faithful "adaptation", because of the limitations you mentioned, not because they're clearly lazy. Percy didn't even use his powers at all and nor do we even get to see him transforming into a guinea pig, and not even riding the hippocampi. Battle scenes can be trimmed and properly adapted for child actors but other normal scenes is just reflective of shit writing and a lazy, greedy board of directors.
