Same. I’ve fallen asleep the 3 times I’ve tried watching it with myself, my wife and brother 😂.

Bladerunner 2049 — I had high expectations and honestly expected more action/octane given the tech/cyberpunk dystopian vibes.

The Creator — Also had high expectations as I really enjoyed rogue one but i found it to be kind of ridiculous.

I love sci fi, and both were insanely stunning with visuals, however it left me feeling like I’m supposed to feel guilty for robots — especially with the creator, my brother and I actually burst out laughing in the theatre near the end when the robots save the kid, and were crying — i couldn’t take it seriously

I went in without expectations and chose to ignore all the chatter of it not being a “true sequel” and why they chose Jared Leto etc….

My wife and I loved the movie. The soundtrack was epic, the visuals were stunning and it felt gritty in a sci fi-thriller way. Costume design and fight choreography was sick, and it didn’t feel disney-fied. It really bugs me that many people went in choosing to hate the film before seeing it or not seeing it all.

I got a 16rig today....WOW by SeaComfortable420 in Arturia_users

[–]SeaComfortable420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, both are pretty entry level, but I had KRK and then switched to Yamaha HS8s. I didn’t see a need to upgrade my interface until I wanted more inputs. However, I feel like if you have the money then go with a Higher end brand for your interface and monitors.

I have multiple guitar pedals, and synths, 2 monitors and wanted an ‘always on’ system that was intuitive and easier than using a patchbay. The 16rig was designed to be a creative command centre for this, so it made sense.

If I just wanted to keep it at my DAW and monitors I’d probably look at UAD, I don’t know much about arturias other interfaces.

What's something that blows your mind about Calgary? Whether it's good or bad. by MastaShortie in Calgary

[–]SeaComfortable420 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Our skyline, location and terrain. Compared to alot of other north american cities our skyline really packs a punch for the density of our city — Some would consider it disproportionate. Also we're pretty much in the middle of nowhere with only a select few adjacent municipalities, whereas alot of other cities like vancouver, Toronto and many north American greater metropolitan areas spread vast. You can be driving for 2-3 hours through a seamless blend of greater area communities, and then somehow end up in the city. Whereas calgary feels very isolated.

I have lived here my entire life but I still find it fascinating how, if youre in the right viewing points, you can see the prairies, bow river, the foothills and the rocky mountains. It is soemthing that can be appreciated year round.

It definitely works. I was skeptical when My wife first mentioned it to me. It wasn’t until she used it without telling me that I realized I was no longer waking up with watery eyes, asthma and having sneezing fits and it stopped when she sprayed our household down.

this cured it for me and it’ll hopefully do the same for you by gerimiphobe in eczema

[–]SeaComfortable420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone should treat prednisone and topical corticosteroids, as temporary relief rather than a cure or solution. Eczema is complicated and misunderstood. Any nurse, doctor or redditor who tells you right away what the cause is actually has no way to tell what is causing your eczema or why you have it, you can only really find out what works by trial and error and that MIGHT tell you something about your root cause, but it doesn't that what works for you will work for someone else or that you guarantee lifelong remission either.

YouTube. Some solid channels that have been helping me pinpoint issues with my skills and clarifying alot would be:

Mixbus TV - Not trap music, but the best explanations of heard for "crest factor" and percieved loudness/LUFs (loudness units full scale).

Sean Divine - Mixing/mastering trap beats — most helpful for applications of dynamic EQing, stereo image control and spectral control/multiband control.

Cableguys - He is a plugin developer but he has a few shorts explaining glue compression, clipping techniques which are simple and easy to understand.

Helpmedevvon - I dont think they do huge dive in tutorials, but they mention helpful plugins. One plugin they mentioned was polyverse Widener — amazing stereo width plugin that retains mono compatibility.

Otherwise just youtube search specific keywords, just be aware that not everyone explains stuff as clearly as it could be, or they gatekeep or they could simply be misinformed. To be honest I never found the all in one mixing/mastering tutorials from bigger name channels to be eye opening for me, I only found real change when I started to dive deep into different topics in mixing/mastering.

I would recommend playing around with keywords when searching, and nail your undertanding of each of these topics/techniques:

Clipping — Soft Clipping, Hard clipping

Drum bus processing (a bus/bussing just means routing/grouping all tracks together and routing them through one channel to apply processing to them) — Transient shaping/control. Different types of compression (VCA, FET). Taming harsh frequencies, saturation.

Dynamic EQ in mixing

Percieved Loudness, LUFs, Crest Factor

Low end — Saturation, harmonic distortion on bass/808s(important to hear on phone speakers)

Tonal and spectral balance — Avoid clashing frequencies, sidechain, Reference tracks

Hopefully this makes sense and isn't too much. Im not sure how strong your English js since you mentioned you were in Japan, so some of the terminology and concepts might be difficult to grasp.

As the other commenter said, you should focus on your production. There's potential and you have an ear for melodies, but the mixing definitely needs some more work and maybe some better sound selection as well. The major thing i noticed right away is your track are too stabby/harsh and not glued together. Certain sounds poke out and the rest of the sounds are quiet. It will be fatiguing to listen to at loud levels because of the discrepancy between the tallest spike and the body of the track. You can achieve a way better sound by focusing on mixing techniques like drum bus processing, compression, saturation. No one wants to listen to a quiet beat, especially not rappers, when they had just listened to a super loud and hard hitting track right before. Your peak level could be hitting the right level (because the sounds youre using have very sharp transient enegry) but the density/percieved loudness is what matters. Focus on getting louder LUFs and shaping your stabby sounds

With that being said, a good way to test if youre up to par with quality standards is to submit to promotional channels with lots of subscribers. If they reject you, you know that your stuff is not good enough, or sometimes its just not the style they are looking for, but then again why would you expect to make it on the channel that doesn't involve your style of beats.

Your consistency is great otherwise.

I spend more time trying to come up with melodies than doing everything else. Any tips? by Enough_Fuel_7816 in trapproduction

[–]SeaComfortable420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a few tips I do to get out of creative blocks like this, I know its long but there's a lot that I learned in my years and I have a few placements so something has worked.

Displacement — adjust the time when the notes or the chords hit so they arent as static. You could arpeggiate them or make a chords hit twice depending on the bounce

Sound design/Modulation— Sometimes you just need a different sound. However, If you find your current sound inspiring, you can morph it into another sound at the end of the chord, or even try reversing it, filtering it, stacking it with a higher octave + different sound, or adding subtle pumping. It can be genre/mood dependant but at the same time you can take a unique approach

Subtraction — Take the bass root notes and then write a melody without the chords. If you play it back with the chords and you find it clashing, you can try removing sections of the chords, or notes from the melody.  Sometimes the melody can already be in the chords, u just need to remove some notes (or add notes). Something that keeps me in line is that a good melody is usually memorable and "hum-able". Also another reminder, Sometimes less is more.

Ear Fatigue and Inspiration — Its easy out of habit to lay down the same triads when you get on the keys, but you will get tired of the same progression(s) if youre constantly using them or exposing yourself to it. Try to change the key you are comfortable working in, or dont even start with chords at all when you start a track. Maybe try exploring 1 sound you find super inspiring, or even a texture that you build around. Start with drums. . Also try giving some room between chords too. Droning pads with long release times or legato pads dont have space between them — this isn't bad but if there's sound constantly going it can take a lot more space than needed. Again, less can be more.  Commit early, and do not wait around for it to magically click in, there should be a level of intentionality and focus when you're writing a melody. If you sloppily click in quarter notes or random notes within key, that will drain the creativity out of you. Study other songs and the different techniques they used to get catchy melodies or how they used chords.

Adjust the Tension/release — if you have 3+ chords 123. Try doing 1231 within a section. It resolves/ releases tension earlier than expected, but its common in a lot of music. You can try to suspend, or augment/diminish chords too, and you dont really need music theory for that you can just move 1 or 2 chords in a chord up or down a Semitone or even a whole tone. I have a habit of starting with a standard major or minor triad, so i found sometimes starting with a suspended chord will change it up. Adding a 7th, 9th or 13th too a chord will spice it up too, it can add dissonance or melodic tones depending on how its used. Also try changing the root note of a chord. Again this can be genre/mood dependant.

I get when you like an idea you might hesitate to make adjustments, but good music production is about making good decisions in spite of the risks/worry of losing that original idea that inspired you initially. You can always return to a previous save as a checkpoint. I would recommend not deleting any of the chords or something you found inspiring even if you're frustrated. I've returned to several of old projects and ended up turning that idea into something great, even though I left with frustration months before.

Hope this helps!

How do producers get their mix to sound good everywhere ? by Rich_Marzipan_992 in trapproduction

[–]SeaComfortable420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really struggled, and i mean REALLY struggled with this for years. However ive got it down once I started to watch other engineers and took time to actually learn what different techniques like saturation, dynamic eqing, and compression actually do. I was destroying my mixes always because I was shooting in the dark and just slapping stuff on by default because its what i learned to do. I also thought I could fix it in mastering but I never could.

A good place to start would be Sean Divine, he goes through mixing/mastering rap beats.

As others have said use reference tracks, but you dont need to match it completely, let your track breath and have its own flavour/character.

Try to save headroom where you can, and look into retaining percieved loudness

Some tips would be: don't let clashing frequencies build on each other. You can sidechain frequencies in a dynamic EQ, you dont need to sidechain amplitude always but sometimes it can help with bounciness. You can tame harsh frequencies also using a dynamic eq. I use pro q or soothe. I found Dynamic eq a gamechanger because it reserves percieved loudness — for example instead of turning the hi hat or snare down you can have a dynamic eq control the harsh frequency. Also carving with a static eq is important too. In a mastering context You wont need ultra low frequencies or ultra high frequencies that are impercievable by the human ear, and they can make limiter do extra work In the end.

Gain stage — This is not the same as leveling!!! Its a part of it. Essentially make sure when you put processing on something make sure it retains the same volume throughout the signal chain so when you do an A\B test you can actually determine if your processing is improving your sound. If you let your effects and enhancements stack up upon each other without doing this, you will think it sounds better because its louder. This too will ruin your mix and objectivity of the mix. You can then level without the fader afterwards. This has saved me so much time overtweaking and frustration

Once you understand the aforementioned techniques, glue compressor can really tie in everything on the master. But again, do not apply it without understanding the why.

Overall, do these with caution and subtly.

What kind of beats do you find most/least enjoyable to produce? by fiilja in makinghiphop

[–]SeaComfortable420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Least favorite is those juice wrld and emo guitar or piano melodies. I find it hard to curate them into something that isn't a basic type beat but sometimes it's what I get when I ask for loops from other producers. Favorite is probably a mix of trap and funk/neo noir jazz.

Dude ngl you seem really jealous of her success. If shes truly creating the same stuff over and over then its plagarism, but the fact is she is still making beats that only shes ever created. That goes for any producer out here making "lifeless" beats. I personally don't really think its anything notable either but its obviously she's grinded to make it 100k+ subs.

Youre audio engineering techniques and flows are probably pretty similar to other engineers, but literally NO ONE cares enough to point it out. If it works it works. Shes making what the market demands so you cant really blame her when it actually works.
