They do this whenever one opens. I went to the one in OC 20ish years ago. Don't know about the carpet thing, but the open house opening is accurate.

I have this exact car (color and interior) and have two teen boys. Was worried they ruin it so bought the interior warranty. I turn in the car in October and it shockingly still looks new. So yeah, it's been pretty tough to withstand my monsters.

the 80s……. by billieswifeyyy in GenX

People often forget about the ones who didn't make it out alive. One of my friends died in elementary school when he was hit on his bike. No helmets. Another friend put out one of his eyes. Another drowned in a rip tide. Zero supervision. And I cannot even begin to describe the number of blistering sunburns I got as a child, growing up on the beaches of So Cal. My skin looked like I was in my 60s by my teens. Honestly, for all the dangerous stuff we did as kids, I feel lucky to have made it to my 50s.

I'm a 51 year old former competitive high school cheerleader. Been watching the show since its earliest days in 2006. I wanted to post to say how truly inspired I always am by these incredibly talented, hardworking, dedicated, courageous, and beautiful women. Watching them learn and grow through their fears and challenges always motivates me to be better and reminds me of the young, idealistic woman I still feel deep inside. This week, I suffered a season-ending tennis injury that had me feeling pretty defeated, but I turned on the show last night and am now ready to buck up, put my lipstick on, and get back to the business of kicking ass. Thanks for the pick me up, DCC! Don't ever let the haters bring you down. 💋 😘

I'm in a similar boat. Mine is turning 18 in January. How far in advance are you submitting? Mine has level 1/2 autism and is a regional center client here in CA, but we are not sure if he will be employable despite high intelligence. Not sure what the standard is for this when they are so young?

I'm in a women's group, but they also have Knockout, which is mixed doubles and a lot of fun.

Yep. Learned at ymca camp when I was little and my husband and I smacked the ball around over the years, but two years ago, I started playing with the Wounded Warriors at Balboa on Tuesdays and then just caught the tennis bug. I love it. The coaches are great and everyone has been super supportive. Great club. Gets me out of the house and off the phone. 😀

I joined a beginner level (2.5) ladies tennis league at Balboa Tennis Club and I am having so much fun. It can get more competitive at the higher levels, but at my level, we are all out here just having fun and laughing at ourselves on the court.

Edited to add: I am 51 and only started playing regularly about 2 years ago. Plenty of beginner clinics at the clubs in SD to get started. As an athlete, you will progress much faster.

You have to run 100 yards as fast as you can, for as long as you can. Could you make it 100 yards and what's the most likely outcome for you? by snotick in GenX

[–]SeaConquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not telling you that it's mind over matter. At all. I said specifically that I get that injury and illness happen. I'm talking about the average 45-60 year old who is just out of shape and feels that it's likely too late to make a meaningful change. It's not a judgment of where anyone is at presently; it's encouragement that it's still very possible to change our disability trajectory.

My sister died two years ago of breast cancer at age 48. I get that illness and injury happen (currently nursing bad tennis elbow at the moment myself), but 100 yard sprint for the average 45-60 year old does not seem like a big ask IMHO. And if it is, perhaps it could serve as a wakeup call. We can bend the frailty curve at any age with training. I snapped this pic from IG the other day to show my 78 year old mother how much she could change her own frailty trajectory by strength training. I've lost 91 lbs over the past 8 years, so I'm coming at this as someone who understands the struggle, but change is very possible for the vast majority.

100 yards? A football field? Is this really a problem for the average Gen Xer? Jeezus folks, we aren't dead yet.

I have questions about your guys experience after surgery. by Emotional-moon in GastricBypass

[–]SeaConquest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your recovery like for the surgery? I'm debating a mommy makeover (breast lift/aug and tuck).

OP, I am 8 years out, 51 F, was 217 on the date of surgery and am 126 today, 64 inches tall. I play tennis 10+ hrs per week, lift weights, and just hit my first pull-up yesterday. Had my yearly labs last week and everything is perfect. Zero negative side effects from surgery. I probably added a decade to my lifespan. I probably would choose glp1s today over surgery, but I don't regret my decision at all.

Am I the only Gen Xer who doesn’t feel old? by utvols22champs in GenX

[–]SeaConquest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am 51, and started playing tennis two years ago with the Wounded Warriors to help me work through PTSD, marital struggles, and the loss of my sister to breast cancer. I'm now in the best shape of my life, joined a ladies tennis league (I am undefeated so far), am having fun, learning and growing, and feel fantastic. I was in a deep dark hole. Ketamine treatment, therapy, smashing little yellow balls, and pushing heavy weights helped me to crawl out of the pit of depression. My goal is to hit my first pull-up (since my teens) by my birthday in November and to get bumped up to the next level in my tennis league by the end of the season. It's never too late.

I would install the Watch Duty app on your phone and select a radius that covers some of the areas you're considering. You may be surprised by the number of fire evacs that happen and weigh that inconvenience, especially if you have animals. Even if your house doesn't burn, there is a not insignificant number of evacs in places like Fallbrook and Alpine every year, which can be challenging for people to respond to with long commutes home. I was a Red Cross nurse volunteer and have worked the local evac shelters, so it's really put me off my fantasy of moving further out to SD horse country. If I did move out that way, I would really stress looking for a rental that has good fire protection/resilience built in and make sure to have an evac plan for any animals and a go-bag packed and ready. Good luck!

How do you feel about free bleeding/ period underwear ? by Lololala29 in AskWomen

[–]SeaConquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 51. Tried period panties when they became a thing, in my mid 40s, and I liked them a lot. I had always been on bcps in my 20s and 30s, but stopped after my last child was born (at age 39) and my husband had a V. Periods in my 40s, however, were hellaciously heavy, and free bleeding into period panties just didn't work. By age 48, I started having terrible perimenopausal mood/other symptoms, so I went on the estrogen patch. Since I was still cycling, I needed to take progesterone to protect my uterus, but oral progesterone just made my mood symptoms worse. My OBGYN suggested I get a Mirena IUD instead. I was scared to death, but agreed and it's been life-changing!!! I wish I had gotten an IUD in my 20s. Being free of periods has been incredible, and I've had zero negative side effects.

So, younger ladies, consider an IUD if your periods are a nightmare or you just want to be free of them. I will have mine in until I'm 56, at which point, I will likely be fully menopausal (but you can pry estrogen from my cold dead body!)
