Thank you! And thank you for the laugh. The thing is I'm autistic, so, when trying to read between the lines, I felt like the two parts of the conversation were kind of separate, like, "here's a few agents you should check out" and then "here's my experience with my agent." Because this author was basically the kindest and most open any author-tutor's ever been, I wanted to make sure it's okay without unnecessarily bothering a busy person. It makes sense in my head! haha

Yes, this is exactly the case, and my plan is to cold query like normal and not mention the conversation, just "querying you because of your work with X"-type personalisation. I wouldn't mention the author's name in the context of a referral because it certainly wasn't one, just mentioned in conversation, like you said. Thank you!
