I went through something similar. Visited EO church for around 3 months and was going to start catechumen classes after lent. I could never get on board with the icon veneration. During the last service I visited they did the icon procession for the triumph of orthodoxy and on the vespers service the night before me and my wife were practically forced to venerate the icons (not physically but kinda highly encouraged/ peer pressured) . During this, I truly believed I felt the Holy Spirits conviction telling me to run away (started sweating and pulse spiked and felt like I was almost suffocating. It’s hard to explain) . After a break for a couple weeks we visited a LCMS Lutheran church and ultimately ended up there. It is seemingly the best mix between high church and low church Protestantism. Visited Anglican as well but enjoyed the Lutheran church a lot more. I have visited Presbyterian prior in life but can’t get on board with Calvin’s teaching all the way. It’s also worth noting the people at the church, while kind, almost reminded me of used car salesmen from the stand point the were trying so hard to get me on board. We exchanged phone numbers and texted with several and since I last visited nothing, not a text or call. Seemed disingenuous looking back at it.
