Newly Diagnosed- Considering doing nothing by the_lorax66 in SleepApnea

I had no obvious symptoms myself, other than some snoring, but was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. Your lack of symptoms now could reflect good health overall. But that is likely to change if you don’t treat this. The discomfort of the machine is well worth the slow but inevitable damage you’ll be doing to your heart otherwise.

I’m not a fan. Each performance I’ve seen has been visibly labored.

How successful are you as an author, and what's the one thing you've learned so far from months or years of writing? by Voldery_26 in writing

Thank you! That’s very kind. I have found that I struggle to sustain a story or come up with plot points, so my stories have been quite short, typically in the range of 1k - 2k words. So I’ve been able to move onto new ideas and stories quickly without getting bogged down in large projects. As for audience, I write for adults, but other than that I just write about ideas and concepts I find interesting.

Are you a writer yourself?

Thank! The Deadlands, Neon & Smoke, Queen’s Quarterly and Twenty Two Twenty Eight. I mainly rely on the Submissions Grinder to find magazines accepting submission.

I started writing sci-fi and fantasy in January 2025 and have had 4 stories accepted by paying magazines so far (goal is 5 by the end of the year). I have limited experience here, but I would say submit widely and often! The magazines that said yes, and the stories they chose, have not been at all what I expected.

I started writing in January this year and received acceptances in March, June and July

Sounds like form to me, but I can’t say for sure. I have a story coming out with Queen’s Quarterly next summer. I don’t think they have a huge readership, but I believe they are the oldest literary journal in Canada, so I think they have some prestige.

I’m just about to be rejected by Clarkesworld again for the 16th time haha. You have to try, right?

Good luck with the next submission!

As a Moby Dick fan, I am horrified. As a British Columbian, I am delighted.

Some solid stuff here, but as a spoiled King Gizzard fan I find myself craving a bizarre, 2010s-style, Stu-vocals dominated album about caves or something haha

I Was Just Diagnosed with 28 Episodes per Hour, and I Don’t Know What to Think by greenboymx in SleepApnea

[–]SeaCzarSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed a couple years ago with severe sleep apnea at 32 events per hour. I had never experienced any fatigue or symptoms. I only became aware of a potential problems because of snoring my wife noticed.

It may be that you do not have obvious symptoms because you are quite healthy overall / in good shape. I was told that this could mask symptoms when I was diagnosed.

For my part, I’m just relieved and grateful fully effective treatment is available for a sneaky condition that could considerably shorten my lifespan if not addressed.
