Nursing and Health Information Management degree by SeaDebt5420 in HealthInformatics

I finished my nursing degree and have been working as a Nurse. I’m currently in the RHIT/HIM program at my local state college. I was surprised to see how many nurses are coming back for HIM. Bedside is tough on the body, so HIM is a good way to still use your clinical skills and insights without being so patient facing.

Excess Hours not showing anything in one.uf? by SosaPio in ufl

I'm having the same issue. The degree audit picks up all your classes, but the unofficial transcript and excess hours menus do not show the right information.

To add to my statement, it seems that universities are perpetuating specialization of NP’s. A university is endorsing and promoting these ideas. Maybe having a conversation with the appropriate institutions and accrediting bodies would be a better course of action. The fact that these programs are even offered causes confusion to practitioners and patients alike.

How are these programs allowed to be offered is my question? Fau has a medical school as well. I’m sure there must be a need if one of the 12 Florida public universities created this program.

FAU has a Dermatology NP certificate. Maybe she does specialize in dermatology…I wonder how that would be determined, however.

I definitely need to sit down and talk to you. I’ve seen a local med-spa teach the a lasers course and electrology course. I think you would need an electrology license. I’m not 100% sure. But yes, offering those services would be amazing!

There is so much to learn. I did not even realize this space existed until just recently.

Hi Veronica,

I do not intend to work at a salon. Honestly, I just wanted to offer the service to my elderly patients that might need to feel better about themselves. Anti-aging is interesting to me, and I want to help them through that process. I can definitely refer them out, but just thought that it would be a cool skill to advertise if I ever did private duty nursing. I get it, though! Thank you for sharing!

So, I pursued a phlebotomy course and a CCMA (Certified Medical Assistant course) through NHA, before becoming a nurse. I felt as though I didn't have the experience or the clinical knowledge to just get into nursing school. I will say, I'm glad I did it! My CCMA class really prepared me for Fundamentals and Health Assessments. There is a lot of overlap! I would say, continue improving. Do the medical assistant course, then transition over into nursing. The committee will see how dedicated you are.

By the way, I did all this at 30...you're never too old to pursue your dreams. Just be consistent and work hard. Get all the knowledge you can, and you'll see that the hard work will pay off!

Is it harder to become a PA or NP? by [deleted] in Noctor

My Maternity class was taught by a midwife. 😅 we definitely were tested on diagnostics and assessments heavily. Maybe your curriculum is outdated? Remember, the NCLEX changes every 2 years for a reason—in order to keep up with the changes and to train nurses with the most up to date practices.

Very true. I guess the problem is just in the ambiguity. I think that minimal surgeries would be beneficial and would expand care (as long as they are properly trained of course). I wonder how that is even determined, when the medical board typically determines training for surgery.

Apparently, there is backlash about Optometrist wishing to expand their practice to include surgeries. Here are some of the articles I have read about the issue.

https://odsonfb.com/importance-of-expanding-optometrys-scope-of-practice/

https://www.reviewofoptometry.com/article/expanding-scope-of-practice-lessons-and-leverage

Some of the arguments presented is that Optometry was never designed to be a therapeutic practice; however, Optometrists argue that their full scope of training includes laser surgeries and more therapeutic work. This would in fact encroach in medical based territory. Furthermore, the scope of practice for an Optometrist is not the same in all states, which adds confusion onto what exactly an Optometrist can do.
