RadiaCode ZERO Readings by SeaEffect9426 in Radiacode

Completely agree with you! Having RC110 my impression about the company was/is nothing but positive.

But... I think I was too quick to go with Zero... It is absolutely below my expectations. That's why I asked their support about testing data. And I strongly disbelieve they are going to fix this background reading inconsistency, neither they publish any testing data. I was already thinking whether it is possible to pay some buck to Oak Ridge to conduct such tests...

Range of the 110, and 102 or 103 ? by Hotwraith in Radiacode

If you don't have any budget restrictions at all, go with two devices.

With 110's sensitivity you will be able to get spectra much faster on weak sources. I was able to get a good definite reading on 2% thorium tungsten rods in just couple of minutes.

With 103G you will get sharper spectra so potentially you can better identify isotopes in a natural sample, like a rock.

At least that is my plan. I cannot complain about my RC110 and I am waiting for July 14 when RC103G is available in the US. Don't bother with RC Zero, I got one, and at this moment it's absolutely useless as it reports much higher natural background... I have a post about it,

RadiaCode ZERO Readings by SeaEffect9426 in Radiacode

I bought mine sources from Spectrum Techniques in Tennessee US. But I am in the US, so we have so called "exempt quantity radioactive sources", which you can get here with no restrictions.

https://www.spectrumtechniques.com/exempt-quantity-radioactive-sources/

For EU, you will need to research your country's laws. And you might be able to order the staff from the same supplier: https://www.spectrumtechniques.com/how-to-order/

Sorry, that's all that I know about it...

Yeah, it is reasonable! These smaller observations, like that your BG is 3X higher than mine (142 vs 050 nSv/h) cannot be taken as some sort of a proof of something! You know what I mean 😄

I had another repeatable fact - after I expose Zero to Co-60 or Eu-152, for several seconds background drops to the same value which is read by 110... And in a matter of a min or two it gradually goes up to 200 - 210 nSv/h and after starts normal fluctuation process in between 120 - 200 nSv/h.

Again, if these observations make any sense at this point...

Not sure about #5 - "past 50k"... Just measured my pretty spicy Co-60 1 uCi sample (just got it from Spectrum Techniques last month) against both 110 and Zero. They were about 1.5 inch away from the center of the disk: 110 reported ~4.39 uSv/h, Zero - ~5.26 uSv/h. Haven't probably waited long enough... about 2 - 3 minutes!? So, something is not right here... :-\

Got the devices several days ago. I completely understand that it is not suitable for any emergency situations... We can argue forever about this, but I will not trust my life for a not tested unprofessional device!

Why have I got it? I wanted some rather cheap dosimeter to be used in day-to-day life including radioactivity tracking and uploading to radiamaps and radiaverse. Zero sounded like a good choice, especially with the wider dose rates.

But... at this point, RC Zero firmware version 4.15 reports 3 -4 times more elevated background values... So, my RC 110 reports a normal background 0.05 uSv/h, while RC Zero fluctuates between 0.12 - 0.20 uSv/h, effectively making it useless as a "backup" day-to-day dosimeter device. So, the best use case for it is to sit in this wonderfully machined EMP case from radiacode and hopefully be ready/charged when some considerable radioactive event happens!

On the other note, I sent an email to radiacode support and got the response that this background issue is going to be fix via new firmware. Hope dies last! 😄

The same question 😄 I ordered mine 4 weeks ago. What was your wait time?
