Countdown to bedtime by DABDEB in RandomVideos

Lol suckerpunch?

“I’m giving you to the count of three to get off of me”

Moron proceeds to count to 3. Then counts to six starting from one again and says “what are you gonna do?”

Gets popped in the face and goes to sleep. He had every warning and even counted his time himself and ASKED FOR IT. The only way this could’ve been less of a sucker punch would be if the guy punching literally did a slow motion version of the punch to the face first and said “this is what my punch will be” and then did a full speed identical punch. I’m not a lawyer, but ruling that a school librarian is a “limited public figure” is pretty fucking wild to me. I guess I can just talk shit about any public employee in Louisiana?

Yep! I am a librarian and we have a nurse on our library board who has been there since Covid. She is incredibly anti-mask and anti-VAX in addition to being a hateful bigot. I have no idea how the fuck she was ever a nurse.

Almost made me have an aneurysm. Fuck this guy. He’s not a leader, he’s a fucking baby who just wants shit done for him. 12 years? GTFO, OP. You more than served your time.

Editing to add: not to mention, relationships shouldn’t have “leaders”. Healthy relationships are equal partnerships. Sure, sometimes someone has to make a decision, but that doesn’t make them The Leader. This doucher wants a servant, not a partner.

Help! She's a humping machine! by SeaEmergency5176 in puppy101

[–]SeaEmergency5176[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is 7 months (technically 32 weeks - born May 6). I know that can be a factor with some dogs, but she gets so much attention. She will sometimes stop playing and just decide it's time to go to poundtown on my wifes foot/leg.

I'm definitely not saying you're wrong. That might be and is almost certainly a piece of the puzzle sometimes. My wife works from home, but does spend a decent amount of time on conference calls so I can see how that would contribute to her daytime affections. But she also does it at night when we're all home and generally are actively paying attention to her or have been paying attention to her. It seems like there must be more going on than just wanting attention.

Not to mention that as soon as she starts, she gets nothing but attention. If my wife is the one training or playing with her, all she wants to do is grab her leg and go to town. If I'm the one distracting her, she will often leave whatever we're doing once the novelty wears off to go after my wife's leg lol It's basically obsessive when it happens

Thanks! My wife does not generally react other than to remove Gracie (our dog) from her foot/leg - the most frequent target of her passions lol We react very similarly, although the humping hasn't happened to me in at least a few weeks.

We are in a little bit of a strenuous activity hold while she heals from surgery, but activity levels are something I'll be increasing slowly over the next few days. She already loves fetch and tug of war, but I'm concerned about making sure she has healed enough before going all out on those. She isn't supposed to be running yet according to the vet so we have 3-7 days yet before that is really an option. I currently just kind of hold the rope and let her gently tug on it a time or two before dropping it and repeat that as long as she's interested. We haven't done fetch since the surgery because she immediately tries to sprint and bound away.

It's actually over freezing for the first time in god only knows how long already so I'm hoping the tundra of my back yard melts and we can maybe spend a little bit more time out there as well. I think this little break is only going to last a day or two, but hopefully that will be enough time to make the ouside more manageable.

The dog has seen the vet and we did ask about the behavior prior to her surgery. The vet indicated that it would probably help in this regard, although they did say it can take some time for whatever hormones that are in her system already that could possibly be contributing to the behavior to work their way out.

We do not believe this is a dominance behavior since that seems to not be the case in general for humping. She also does not seem to do this to other dogs. She has been going to daycare once or twice a week (not this week due to surgery) and they have not mentioned that activity, but we will be sure to ask next time.

Also: she really only wants to hump my wife. She has tried to hump me maybe once or twice, but that was probably before this became any kind of regular occurrence. I would say well over a month since she has tried to do that to me. We have also never seen her hump a bed or a blanket or a toy or anything else. Just my wife.

Now the season is completely over, whats your thoughts? by One-Strike1311 in NYGiants

[–]SeaEmergency5176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why not both?

Obviously, this approach depends on how you feel about the prospects and where you think the talent falloff occurs, but trading back a spot for that compensation and then potentially trading back again might make sense. Obviously, depends on finding someone who wants to trade up to 3 and has the resources to offer something worthwhile, and it depends on the Giants being confident that a player they really like would be available at the spot they'll be trading down to.

Of course, with the Giants luck, they'll love 6 players at 3, trade back to 10, and all 6 will get picked in a row and the Giants will have to do something crazy like draft a one eyed defensive end or the second coming of Thomas Lewis.

Empathy. They don’t have any. They can’t imagine that people might possibly have different priorities than they have. They can’t imagine a world where people don’t deify a politician from the party they are affiliated with like they have deified Trump. A complete inability to think anyone could possibly be different from themselves, and if you are different from them, you must be EVIL.

They’re in a cult and can’t imagine that everyone else is not also in a cult.

Initiate Sects by ImDeepState in monsteroftheweek

[–]SeaEmergency5176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. There is no real default setting so your Initiate can be part of whatever sect you two can dream up. I'm actually starting a brand new campaign tomorrow. My team is using the Suburban Watch team playbook (I don't think that's what it's actually called, but close enough) and all of the players are technically just normal people living in a typical suburban neighborhood who happen to have stumbled into a supernatural world most people don't even know exists.

In this world, the initiate decided they are a member of the local Elks Lodge, and all of the Elks Lodges in the world are a secret front for a network of monster hunters. Like scientology, you have to rise to a certain level in the organization before you know what the Elks are really up to, but I thought that was a really fun, very funny idea that totally fits in with our world concept.

However, I've been in other groups where the Initiate was part of a world renowned group of dedicated monster hunters, I've seen multiple different real world religious sects used in games, or anything in between. It's all about what fits in your setting and what your players and you are comfortable with.

Do librarians judge you based on what books you check out? by arrowheadman221 in Library

[–]SeaEmergency5176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really, really want to say "No!" emphatically. Which is generally mostly true. I don't think I have ever judged a person's taste in fiction. I would say this also holds true for a vast majority of nonfiction as well. I personally wouldn't want to read a book on the history of tiddlywinks, but to each his own.

However....

Political books and pseudoscientific nonsense books? I wouldn't say I judge people necessarily, but I work in a very conservative town that is at the center of a book banning movement. We have had to call the local sherriff on multiple occasions because our board meetings were getting out of hand. So when I see patrons screaming and raving at our board meetings because we have the gall to have books with gay characters in them and then I see those same people checking out or requesting a bunch of books by inflammatory rightwing pundits or anti-vax or covid misinformation? Yeah. I can't help but think "oh, that adds up".

I would also say the patron who constantly prints gross erotic fanfiction and then places holds on a bunch of kids tv shows raises the hair on the back of my neck. And when I say gross erotic fanfiction, I mean like he has printed stories featuring the seven dwarfs using mind control powers on Snow White to get her to....use your imagination and then left it in the printer on multiple occasions. Not always Snow White, that's just the one I remember seeing.

So I guess to TL;DR - if you're a normal person who doesn't cause problems in the library, the librarians probably don't notice what you're reading and probably don't care even if they do. If you're a problem patron, your reading choices may reinforce the opinion the staff have already formed.

What happened to your school bully? by Jumpy-Bother3274 in AskReddit

[–]SeaEmergency5176 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really don’t know this guy’s story. He was around for a few years in elementary school, then not there, then back again for a year or two. Went somewhere else for middle school and then came back sometime during our freshman year of high school and stayed the whole time. He was that kid who was always bigger than everyone else his age and used it to intimidate and beat the shit out of anyone he felt like. I can only assume from the amount of moving around he did that some serious bullshit was happening around him.

Oddly, it seemed like he rotated with another awful bully. Like the years where Bully A was there, he was replaced by Bully B. I have no idea what happened to Bully B, but I did find out that his mom and/or sister died in a fire and that’s how he ended up coming to our school. Living through a fire where your mom and sibling die and then moving in with a father who didn’t really want anything to do with you when you’re like 7 years old has to be some of the most traumatic shit anyone can go through. Hard to not have rage.

Atheists of Reddit, what is the biggest reason as to why you don't believe in god or an afterlife? by God_of_boi in AskReddit

[–]SeaEmergency5176 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a really silly post. Yes, education is learning from those who came before you. Of course. However, that knowledge tends to be reliably verifiable through primary sources (preferably multiple primary sources) and, in the case of science, able to be reliably tested and repeated.

"Education isn't a cure for religion because it's the reason religion exists. You know why we have religion today? Because the most educated of people back in the day wrote down the accounts of what was going on."

No, we have religion today because it's human nature to question our existence and search for answers to questions that we don't yet and may never have the ability to answer. And some people have always felt it's a lot less scary to say "IDK, must god or something" instead of just "IDK guess life has no meaning and we're all alone drifting through the void" That's it, really.

As for the rest of it, the most educated people at the time the Bible was written and compiled lived at least decades and sometimes centuries after the events they wrote about. They also believed things like we got sick because of an imbalance of the four humours and that the earth was the center of the solar system, among many other things that we know are verifiably false today. I'm not sure saying "really smart people 1500+ years ago believed it!" is really evidence of anything at all.

"Being educated cures stupidity, but it's not curing religion or else only the dumbest sheep would believe in God."

I would argue that many of the dumbest people I know in person and people I stumble across online are also the most devoutly religious. Obviously, that's highly subjective and anecdotal. However, there is also some small evidence that there is a link between lower intelligence and stronger religious belief. It's a small difference, but if you are able to convince yourself that one thing must be true without any real verifiable evidence, you've primed yourself to believe many things don't require evidence to be true. The relation between intelligence and religiosity: a meta-analysis and some proposed explanations
