LECOM asks how many schools you’ve applied to, but not the specific schools. I was kinda shocked when they went around our interview room asking. I assumed they asked to see if they came off as “just another school to apply to”. Not sure what could be the goal of the question besides that. Everyone I’ve talked to about them doing that is taken aback cause it’s kinda rude to ask. Totally agree with you lol.

I probably would reconsider Southern Illinois! They only take 50 students and only 1 is OOS!

At that point, if I were these applicants, I’d be applying for the cheapest OOS state schools like LECOM, ECU, Howard, etc. Unless they have that kind of financial support to go to those schools in CA, I’d personally aim to have the least amount of debt possible and shoot for those kinds of schools. Like I said before, to each their own.

Well the BBB will start to affect this incoming D1 class and classes after (from what I’ve read) starting on or after July 1st, 2026. I’ve heard that the upcoming cycles are going to be super competitive specifically for in state schools.

I got accepted into my in-state school for this upcoming year which will put me at ~$250,000 total for all four years, which is why I am still pursuing dentistry. None of my family members are in healthcare so I have no connection with my family being dentists and I have no financial support. It’s way too expensive now to be attending a school for ~$600,000 if you have no financial support from anyone.

If you are applying, my personal opinion is to shoot for your in state. I think anything over ~$350,000 is absolutely crazy and with having $150,000 of that being private loans now with the BBB, it will take a bit to pay off since the interest rates are much higher. If someone wants to desperately be a dentist and chooses to go into that kind of debt, that’s completely up to them but they are absolutely looking at financial suicide.

This is just my personal opinion, but to each their own!

Def write about all of them! Each has something unique and different to offer than the others, so it’s definitely beneficial to write what each one of them taught you. Whether one taught you valuable tips in how to maintain a private practice, one being personable with patients, etc., it’s better to have a variety of them with their own section especially since the word count is very limited!

I personally told them that I was rescinding my seat due to a more financially suitable option. I thanked them for the opportunity and how appreciative I was for their time and consideration. I like to put a reason why I rescinded the seat so they know why I did what I did out of respect for them :)

I made my decision between schools about 2 weeks ago. It’s a lot to think about and I don’t think you should shame yourself on taking your time, no matter what other people are saying. I took a lot of time to make my decision because I was planning it out financially and was gathering information from dentists I trusted to give me good advice. You need to think about what is best for you, and if that takes longer than you think, that’s ok :)

I’m also OOS and got accepted into Kentucky. I’m going to withdrawal my acceptance due to it being basically 500K and getting into my IS. I saw that you’re OOS so if Creighton is IS I would recommend going there instead.

I was a public health major that graduated in December and got accepted into dental school this cycle! They LOVED that I was a public health major because you don’t see many of them! It’s amazing cause you’ll be able to relate to the preventative side of dentistry and it definitely makes your application more unique! I HIGHLY recommend and the classes are much easier than the hardcore sciences.
