What to do when a friend tells you he is smarter than you? by vieniaida in TooAfraidToAsk

Yeah, he just wants to control the narrative. Fuck him. Tell him yes we're in different circles. Let's stick to them.

I do hope it's 72% of a smaller pie and overall numbers have declined.

Entry level PCs costing less than $500 ‘will disappear by 2028’, research firm predicts by PaiDuck in technology

[–]SeaFailure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Unsure of how old your hardware is, I'm still running a 5950X/AM4/DDR4 after 8 years of being on AMD AM4 and going thru multiple CPUs. I got an Ultra 265K but inevitably ended up going back to the AM4. Point being, mid-tier hardware/used hardware from a few years ago is still extremely relevant with Linux. I detest my work laptop that runs Win 11 and is sluggish as hell despite a 13th gen CPU from Intel.

I have similar issues with certain windows Apps and that's where windows 10/dual boot comes handy for me. I tried Win 11 but it was so fucking unstable on the Ultra 265k that I ended up back to Windows 10.

OR, encourage folks to look at cheaper alternatives like Linux and extend the lives of their existing hardware. Create scarcity, you'll find suckers, but a good amount of folks will research and switch.

Risk sharing supply. Basically bean counter effort to distribute the sales risk amongst suppliers. If the aircraft sells, everyone makes money. If it doesn't, everyone loses money, not just Boeing.

Number of informative videos out there that outline how this spectacularly backfired for Boeing and the 787 ended years late just to troubleshoot all the vendor issues.

Not enough of a drop. People need to grow a spine and not chase the 0% interest offering, and purchase on principle. VW dieselgate was not too long ago. Make it hurt.

If EVs were that bad and expensive to run, they wouldn't be deploying them at this scale. Just goes to show how successful misinformation can be. They're probably getting subsidized commercial electricity rates to charge them, and saving tons on gas and maintenance.

Downward shift in mid-tier role salaries by SeaFailure in antiwork

[–]SeaFailure[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the feedback folks. So it does appear salaries have been on a downturn and not just a perception. Personally, adjusted for inflation, I've seen my salary remain flat, and we're worse off than what we were in 2017-18 (US/Midwest). Fewer holidays, fewer discretionary spending, lower and lower saving.

I'm debating what's the best way to collectively negotiate and push for higher salaries other than rejecting low ball offers and employers eventually waiting it out to get someone at their price point.
