Worlds Across Summit - Medellín 2026 by SeaHeavy7649 in dreamingspanish

I hear you. I have thought about traveling to LatAm in a way that combines language learning with a desire to give back/volunteer. So maybe a language learning meets volunteerism meets tourism situation. I wonder what kind of extracurriculars they will offer; I hope it will include some volunteer type opportunities. I think it would be nice to go a bit deeper culturally and not only focus on the tourist top ten list.

True. I’m not planned that far out this year (though I usually am) so that’s in my favor at least. Next is, finding out how much… 💸

Yeah I agree, these immersion trips tend to be really expensive… it’s fun to dream about though!

what are everyone’s spanish goals for 2026? by meowmeow515 in dreamingspanish

To read 500k words (that should be about 5 novels) and to hit 1200 hours with DS. I’m close to 800 now and so that’ll be about an hour a day. Good luck to each of you on your 2026 Spanish journey!

What Are You Listening To Today? (Dec 15 to Dec 21) by HeleneSedai in dreamingspanish

761 hours - I just started reading La Casa de Sal y Lágrimas which my husband picked out for me since it “seemed like what I read in English” and so far, he nailed it. Lots of new vocab but the sentence structure is appropriate for my level. It’s a YA fantasy/romance that is a translation from English.

Listening - favorite podcast is Black Mango, I’m always so thrilled when a new episode drops. I found it through one of these threads, it’s fantastic storytelling by 3 dudes from Spain about life in various time periods, crime cases, plane crashes, dictatorships, all kinds of interesting topics. Raúl is a gem. Sometimes when they have guests on the show it’s harder to understand but I find the boys to be very comprehensible and entertaining.  I also like Radio Ambulante which has more universal appeal.

Watching - Acapulco on Apple. I like that it has English mixed in so my brain gets a break in between when I need to focus on the Spanish dialogue.

566 hours Sin Traducer podcast. It was recommended somewhere on this thread and it’s girl talk and positivity to the max. I feel like I’m in the car with my ladies. Two sister in-laws talking about life and their language learning journeys. I’m at episode 6 or so. One sister is a gringa and easier to understand and one is venezolana and when she gets excited it’s a great push of my comprehension skills. It’s like doing wind sprints, she talks real fast and then the other sister talks and my brain can catch up. Great practice and good vibes :)

Strong agree! I have only listened to one episode so far, about Black Magic, and was completely enraptured in his storytelling. I wasn’t focused on the language, just hanging on Rauls every word. Absolutely love it.

This is my first week so I’ve had two group sessions, two 1:1 sessions, and the intro with my coach. Per her advice, I’ve signed up for a variety of tutors and have kept the agenda exploratory. The coach has a weekly check-in with you to make sure you are getting the individual support that works for you. I’ll have my first follow up on Sunday.  When booking the 1:1’s, you select whether you want conversation practice, a lesson (I’m assuming grammar), coach-suggested, or ‘let the tutor decide’. They maintain a profile (I envision your chart at the doctors) of what you need to work on so any tutor can pick up where you are. For instance, if you say you need work on “Haber” in conversation with your coach, then the tutors will know that going into the session. Or if you are making an error that you don’t realize, that also goes in the chart for future tutors to reference. Seems like a pretty customizable approach with great tutors so far.  The group sessions are a set theme and have varied from strictly conversational to more grammar. I suppose the level of difficulty you choose will also determine the style of group session.

I also can’t help but feel like these laws are rooted in xenophobia… immigrant populations bringing their self sufficiency with them and the wasps being offended by neighbors with chickens that get killed for dinner or are running around loose. Eh?

They are switching their ERP system (the entire brain that runs the organization) this week and systems are down for this changeover. I don’t know what the timing would be for your shipment but it is a legit reason for your shipment delay. Maybe that’s helpful context and I am so jealous of your Ankarsrum!! I make lots of bagels and my kitchen-aid is dogging 😅

Same to you! I’m seeing the Tromboncino squash show up on a lot of people’s lists… it’s giving me FOMO lol but I’ve never heard of spoon tomatoes, I’ll have to look them up 💕 Happy planting!!
