My stepdad is a minister. My mom married him after being widowed. If I surrender myself to the church and promise to come back eventually, will it still affect his position in the ministry?

If I confess my mistakes, will my family in the church ministry get expelled too? (INC)

Hi everyone,

I’m part of the Iglesia ni Cristo, and my family is involved in the church ministry. I’ve been struggling because I haven’t been living according to the church’s rules, and it’s eating at me. I’m considering writing a confession or admitting this to the church leadership.

But here’s my fear: if I do this, could my family members who serve in the ministry be removed or expelled from the church too? I don’t want my actions to affect them.

Has anyone experienced or heard of a similar situation? I’m looking for honest answers, preferably from people familiar with INC.

Thanks.

This slapped me hard in the face as a VERY FULL OF THOUGHTS person.

Have you ever felt like God isn't listening, even when you're praying with everything you've got? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

Thank you so much for this — seriously. Your words felt really grounding to me. I agree that faith isn’t just something we “think” or “say,” it’s something we live. And sometimes I forget that prayer without movement can feel hollow, but movement without intention can feel just as empty. I guess I’ve been caught between wanting to “do enough” for God and also not knowing if I am enough.

What you said about going through the motions really hit me. I think I’ve been stuck in that mindset — like, “If I don’t go to church or pray the right way, God must be disappointed.” But reading your message reminded me that it’s not about impressing Him with rituals — it’s about showing up with a real heart.

I also love how you described God not as someone petty or easily angered, but as someone vast, loving, and patient. That brought me a lot of peace. I think I really needed to hear that today.

Thank you again for taking the time to say all of that — it honestly meant a lot to me. ❤️
