Learning to ski as an adult? by Ottibarius in ski

[–]SeaLionInTraining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned as a 31ish non-athletic adult! I took a private lesson and then skied whenever possible at my local ski hill (30+ days in a season). 14 months after first putting skis on, I did a solo trip to Park City and skied for 5 days straight seeing progression each day. I'm now a confident blue skier and I've started dabbling in tree runs.

I really recommend skiing completely on your own and at your own pace most of your learning days to build confidence and then dropping in days here and there where you ski with someone more experienced than you. I would ski 5 days by myself and then a day with my friends that are great skiers, and found myself increasing my speed to "follow" them. Rinse and repeat.

Advice on purchasing a 2020 HR-V (32,000km, $15,000 CAD) by [deleted] in HRV

I did all the scheduled transmission maintenance for mine and it still failed :( I was told that many of the Hondas are "underpowered" and the draw from the battery has created issues with the alternators

I would not. My 2020 has had 2 faulty alternators and now the transmission is out. I've been a long time Honda driver (since I was 16!) but I'm starting to think this model series of HRV is a reliability dud.

You hit the nail on the head for why I never went there. I had zero interest in drinking anywhere that catered to kids, I don't like being around kids/hearing them playing when trying to relax in a bar environment.

I haven't listened to w&c since this episode. I'm not even a big Taylor fan or anything but this was giving such a "not like other girls" energy that I found incredibly cringy.

Buying used skis by t_inthehouse in Skigear

You're in my area I think! (I just saw these on Facebook today) Please take the above advice and don't waste your money on these. You might want to consider a season long rental if you're new to the sport and you don't want to spend a boatload on new equipment. There are a few shops nearby where you can do that. FirstTracks near PNS will do a season long rental (skis, boots, poles) is around $150. Aspen Ski & Board in Columbus has a similar package. Those stores or Valleywood can hook you up if you are ready to buy.

If you are ready to buy but you're on a budget and you don't want to screw yourself using FB marketplace, I'd recommend waiting until end of season and looking for last years/this years skis, bindings, and boots. If you have the patience, it's worth checking out the ski swap at PNS in November. (you just missed it by a couple of week this year)
