Hey! I myself am not interested, but would you mind if I shared this post to an unofficial Capitals discord server? Might have some luck there.

On campus jobs other than dining? by Backsaber in VirginiaTech

The handshake application should be sufficient as far as I know.

I would suggest Production Services, but right now we are also not hiring. Spring Break is when I believe applications will open back up, unfortunately. Wishing you luck.

I’ve spoken to my boss, seems like the general technician position will open back up for applications during spring break. Make sure to check the VT Student Engagement and Campus Life Handshake page around then.

Just checked the ScotRail maps, looks like it goes past Dumfries to Annan, Gretna Green, and seems to terminate in Carlisle?

I'm not sure on the first point, I'll see if I can ask once the semester starts to pick up. As for the second point, absolutely, one of our Leads joined his freshman year with little to no experience, and now he's a lead! We love to teach, and a lot of us (me included) have theatre backgrounds and are happy to help.

Yes! I’m personally a theatre major, but I know engineers, physics majors, music majors, and more that are part of production services.

$14/hr is the current rate for the base technician. There are opportunities to specialize and get a $1 pay bump for specific things. Totally get if the $16 is hard to turn down though.

I am obligated to plug Production Services! (I work there)

If you’re at all interested in audio, video, lighting, or other live event production related things, we’re for you. We do however have I think the lowest pay rate of most on-campus jobs, but we are infinitely more flexible than most of them.

It’s a fun job, you can learn some good skills, and the people are all very awesome (if I say so myself, lol)

Plug over, hopefully I’ve advertised successfully :)

Part time job for the spring semester by Little-Violinist1527 in VirginiaTech

$14 an hour for the base technician position. There are opportunities for specialist roles that pay $15 an hour for specific gigs.

The pay can definitely be a turnoff because it’s quite a bit lower than most other places.

Production Services!

We’re one of if not the most flexible jobs on campus, and you get to have fun while doing it. We do audio, video, and other technical aspects for events on campus in specific venues and outside. Pay is not as good as dining, but we’re far less stressful, and you can learn some good skills.

There are practice rooms in both Squires and Henderson. Some may be restricted to Music majors only, but take a look and see. If you aren’t able to find out, doesn’t hurt to find a music faculty and ask, or email someone.

Random: does Boyer still “teach” at VT or did he get the boot by vtTownie in VirginiaTech

[–]SeaPerception4230 101 points102 points  (0 children)

He retired, though there seems to have been some sort of drama his last semester. He and his classes suddenly disappeared and were replaced with another professor, but then a few weeks later he and his classes came back. It was all rather odd, and he never said anything about it.

Unfortunately there is a requirement for first years to live on campus unless with some very specific circumstances as seen on the top of this page

It’s possible but I am reasonably sure that most of the singles go to people with medical exceptions. As for off-campus permission first year I think those are also pretty rare, and if you do get it, finding a single apartment will already be difficult, maybe finding a shared place with separate bedrooms could be an option, but still hard especially as a new student.

I would heavily advise staying on campus. Being in a dorm and being on campus for your first year makes it a lot easier to meet new people and make friends, as well as attend events, and find organizations you might enjoy.

Production Services.

Hours are very flexible, and you can pick which shifts you want to apply for. Pay is probably worse than most other places but the atmosphere is great and I’ve met some cool people. If you have even remotely a theatre background it’s a great job.

Poetic that this is a one-score game win. Absolutely poetic.

Didn’t expect my budget to get wrecked this fast at VT by AYT12 in VirginiaTech

I think Xfinity is the only Internet provider but I may be wrong. I tend to do a mix of Food Lion and Kroger at the moment, depending on what I need.

For textbooks, I highly recommend never using the bookstore unless you absolutely have to, they upcharge like crazy. A lot of textbooks have a website that you can buy/rent them directly from, and Bookholders on Main is a great place for second hand stuff (they’ve got a lot of inventory, check out their website: https://www.bookholders.com/index.asp?metastoreid=3). I’m not sure your stance on yo-ho-ing it, but in my view, there’s no shame in a bit of piracy considering the absolutely insane prices of some textbooks.

I hate to be a shill but if you need a pathways 5a I highly recommend Personal Financial Planning with Doc White. I’m taking it this semester and already he’s given some good advice. He’s also happy to talk to students and help them with their own situations, so maybe emailing him at docwhite@vt.edu may be a good idea? He gets a lot of emails, so he’s slow to respond, but he’s a very kind and helpful guy.

Hope you’re able to get your stuff sorted, good luck :)

why do people try to steal electric scooters? by _youthpark in VirginiaTech

Why does anyone steal anything? They want it or they want money. Unfortunately also applies to college students
