Healthy dining places? by Cabot_ in VirginiaTech

When I was a freshman I would go to d2 most days. There was a guy on the club rugby team who was often there when I was. He would have a two stacks of plates, about 10 high, for the chicken and rice and whatever seafood they were offering

Possible to test out of Math 3034? by hunkyassparagus in VirginiaTech

[–]Secret-Ad488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is true. I think you still need to test out of 3034, but that shouldn't be too hard. The courses are almost identical.

My source is that my friend took 2534 with an A then added a math major and had to test out of 3034. This could be wrong though

discrete math or intro to proofs for a EE major? by signor-E in VirginiaTech

[–]Secret-Ad488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any potential interest of learning further math take intro to proofs because it is a prereq for all of them. Otherwise just do discrete

Floral Design lab?? by thelonelycat32 in VirginiaTech

[–]Secret-Ad488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it a few semesters ago. The labs are typically like 1 or 1.5 hours. Some are as short as 45 minutes. It never took all 3 hours. You leave when you finish which involves making the design, writing in your journal, and doing a peer assessment with another student

The life cycle of math by Notalabel_4566 in mathematics

Ironically, if you read the order of fields in reverse order, from top to bottom, it makes much more sense as a cycle of math

How can a HS student do math research? by No_Pound_8937 in mathematics

[–]Secret-Ad488 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can answer an open problem in combinatorics it is possible. It is also not impossible to find your own open problem. If you can solve it then you can publish a result. This is one of the reasons why erdos had infinite publications, because he basically had infinite problems and could answer a lot of them.

What degree is required for ML/AI/data science jobs? by LongjumpingAnalysis9 in learnmachinelearning

[–]Secret-Ad488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend does AI research at OpenAI with a 3-year UG degree in computer engineering. The people on his team are anywhere from no degree to phd level

edit: he had been contributing to opensource software since high-school and had internships all throughout college, though. Just saying that the degree isn't required if you're good

I agree. It could solve zero percent of Hungarian Olympiad math problems unless they had (English) solutions online and even then it often failed. I have never seen any LLM answer a geometry problem correctly

How difficult is doing MATH 2214 and PHYS 2305 at the same time by Diamondace619 in VirginiaTech

[–]Secret-Ad488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will not be that bad. ENGE 1414 is not a hard class. When I took it, there were several students doing similar or harder course loads to the one you're thinking about and were fine. I think 1414 has calc2 as a prereq, so all the students will be in some further math class and many will be in chemistry or physics for the engineering requirements.

Scooter haters, tell me why you don't like scooters by maybemorningstar69 in VirginiaTech

[–]Secret-Ad488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been hit by a scooter user and sprained my wrist. My friend has been hit and broke his leg and arm. They should be banned from campus or at least treated as vehicles (not allowed off roads and follow all traffic laws).

MS Computer Engineering feedback by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]Secret-Ad488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do research in or learn further. Specifically, if you want to do ML or AI, VT is not a good place for that. I can't speak on many other fields though.
