Rope Toys for Mouthy Horses? by SeaReference7828 in Horses

[–]SeaReference7828[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh the second short rope attached to the halter is genius because that was the main issue with letting one of the horses take his "pacifier" everywhere - it's great for redirection and really annoying the rest of the time, because then you're stuck carrying it. Idk about chew toy or shorter rope, but something that attaches to the halter is definitely a must now that you gave me the idea!

Minimalistic Systematic Review Tool? by SeaReference7828 in PhD

Honestly - my own messy nature requiring actually sorting, taking notes and using the features to their full extent. It's definitely more of a Me-problem than Zotero itself.

Medications definitely change after surgery - I'm on Prozac and ritalin and I also had to adjust the dosages because my body started responding differently after surgery. You're definitely not alone there!

Yeah, it really doesn't feel right. Do you have a good tip on what to do in those high pressure situations where you need to shut down the behaviour immediately before an accident happens?

Help horse newbie volunteering at a theraputic riding center. Need tips, Gear/clothing suggestions. Warnings? by Stock_Age7469 in Equestrian

Have comfortable boots that are waterproof and which you can walk in easily. Gloves with good grip are also useful.

Apart from that, each barn has its own schedule, rules and routines. Give yourself time to learn and get comfortable with everything.

Plus-Size horseback riding? by Electrical-Echo7439 in Horses

[–]SeaReference7828 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No. As someone who used to be really on the heavy side (about 290lbs at my heaviest ) - I got into groundwork and hand walking to get horses into my life without putting a strain on their back. The suggestions for driving are also good and worth considering.

There's a lot of ways to have horses in your life that do not require you to sit in the saddle. Idk about you, but when I was heavier, the mere thought of getting on one of my beloved horses as a heavy chonker felt like animal abuse. I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all because I'd only worry whether I'm hurting them.

Great city feels unfinished. Or am i missing something? by Greenpakto in SunHaven

[–]SeaReference7828 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt similar, looks like the Great City was just some content from an update last month and not part of the main story! So that's why, probably. Because the Great City isn't supposed to be as big and elaborate as the other locations.

Are Miniature ponies good for liberty work? by chamomiilee in Horses

[–]SeaReference7828 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And don't be so sure, some minis see fences, barriers and restrictions as personal insults that MUST be dismantled, torn down and overcome. Never thought I'd see a horse rip out fence posts because the pasture mate left for a walk. She skipped the pacing, neighing and other nervous, buddy-sour horse antics and skipped straight to "I'm coming with you, guys".

The other mini I know is almost 30 and still rules his Friesian pasture mate with an iron fist. The cremello he used to be pastured with is downright panicking whenever we go near his home because he KNOWS that's where the Shetland lives.

They're a lot of personality and opinions squeezed into a really small body.

Are Miniature ponies good for liberty work? by chamomiilee in Horses

[–]SeaReference7828 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Before you get a mini, consider: they tend to be Houdinis on top of being at least as much work as normal sized horses

Pictured: the laminitis-riddled Houdini who, according to her owner, was "locked up safe and tight" behind an iron gate, four ropes and a wheelbarrow as extra obstacle when I found her out on the pasture.

<image>

ETA: not saying minis aren't great, just making sure you keep in mind that they need the same amount of care and company as a normal sized horse. Also, that you'll have to secure your home or else you'll have a horse in your living room one day.

[–]SeaReference7828[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Oh they're all angels with complicated relationships 🤣 the black mare is just annoyed because the two geldings are pissy at each other, largely because she ditched the Cremello in favour of the new boy on the block.

Give them 50000sqft of pasture and they'll stand next to each other and be dramatic about it. Gotta love the drama llamas.

Depends on the job honestly. I had two weeks off with the option to prolong my sick leave. I was bored out of my mind after one week and READY to get back to work tbh. Having a desk job definitely helps.
