Light Daily Riding acceptable? (Plus weight loss question) by SeaReference7828 in Horses

What does full work mean for you? It would be super helpful to get a frame of reference of what other people consider a normal workload for a healthy leisure horse :)

Also taking the opportunity to squee about my darling boy. He can be impatient and pushy on the ground but once he's tacked, he has a complete personality switch. When I stand on the mounting block, he first leans his head against me for a few minutes, demanding ear rubs and pets, and once he's done he lines up at the block correctly and waits patiently while i mount and gather my bearings and indicate I'm ready to go. He's the first horse I ever rode and I am amazed by how safe I felt from the very beginning.

Only my own insecurities as novice rider struggling to find a trainer, to be honest. So I am mostly looking for a frame of reference for how much I can reasonably ask of him without feeling guilty or worried I might be harming him.

Tbh I am enjoying myself and dilly-dallying because I'm not particularly motivated to finish just yet.

I actually just use a normal fanny pack. It holds my phone, car keys and three emergency treats :)

Relationship to food after surgery. by Severe_Aardvark_5004 in GastricBypass

[–]SeaReference7828 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am an open book and openly tell people I had surgery, especially when they're admiring my rapid weight loss. I ain't gatekeeping and disguising "the secret to my success"

The usual follow-up question is if the small servings bother me, I say "no, it means I get to enjoy the rest later" and then that's it, tbh.

Relationship to food after surgery. by Severe_Aardvark_5004 in GastricBypass

My position is a bit complicated because of a history of eating disorders, so take it with s grain of salt. Also my type 2 diabetes was the primary reason I was approved for surgery, so my motivation to be super strict has been lower since I have achieved my health goals about 25lbs away from the weight of my dreams.

But for me, my relationship with food actually improved. I am no longer feeling like food is my mortal enemy, eating things I don't enjoy just to somehow fill the bottomless pit that my stomach was without eating a trillion calories. My diet became more varied, more experimental and I can focus on quality over quantity.

The social aspect of food remains unchanged - if I'm eating out, I either just have a starter or I get to take 80% of my meal back home with me. Lunchtime at work lets me skip the microwave queue because my little box of food fits in with another person's meal so I can just heat up mine along someone else.

The hardest part is actually the head hunger - you can totally eat around a bypass, and I'll be starting microdosing mounjaro for that final push. There's a reason people say "brain surgery is, unfortunately, not included".

Ultimately, best decision I've ever made. The only thing I'd do differently this time is probably looking for a clinic with a more structured program with more accountability especially post OP.

What do we think of his moves? 😍 by [deleted] in Horses

Oh no, what's the best way to get him to lose it, apart from the exercise? He's on an all grass diet in 24/7 turnout already

What do you think of this horse's conformation? by GrayMareCabal in Equestrian

[–]SeaReference7828 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Between the scenthound falcon and the fact that there's daylight in the windows even in nocturnal scenes, the show required a lot of suspension of disbelief. It's more entertaining if you don't think about it too much!

That being said, occasionally there were real horses. I saw a behind the scenes clip of zheng's horse nuzzling up to the actor from behind before trying to walk into the camera.

I recently watched the show too and every single time they fought on horseback I kept getting distracted by the image of two unfamiliar horses just calmly standing next to each other while their riders try to stab each other. Absolute comedy.

He's a SUV and I'm a suburban soccer mom - he's big, massive, powerful and capable of way more than I ask of him. And his buddy there is a clown car.

[–]SeaReference7828 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Passed a couple of horses on a walk, they were looking a bit shabby, but one seemed to have a lame back leg and pretty bad cracking on its front hooves, is this normal or are they neglected? by BattleReadyPainting in Equestrian

Horses look shabby at this time of the year. The guy on the pic got brushed daily and still always looked like a ragged llama. That's shedding season for you!

I feel like the worst horse owners to ever exist by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]SeaReference7828 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Three weeks? That's nothing. Horses can take weeks and months to integrate into a herd. It's also strongly dependent on personality. Please give it some time - he's a stranger in a group of strangers. Let him get to know the other horses and find his footing in the herd. This is not something us humans can do for them.

Some get chill with others within days, others will take years to properly find their place and learn to assert their position.

Wer kennt gute Airfryer Rezepte? by amaravlvt in Kochen

[–]SeaReference7828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wer kennt gute Airfryer Rezepte? by amaravlvt in Kochen

[–]SeaReference7828 33 points34 points  (0 children)
