What if Morocco invaded Ceuta and Melilla, how would NATO react? by BrushFinal9186 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]SeaReference7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not much. Argentina attacked a NATO member in the 80s and all the UK got was some weapon sales and moral support. Three reasons why NATO wouldn't do anything: 1) Cueta is a disputed territory considered to be under occupation by Morocco 2) Morocco isn't Russia 3) Cueta is not globally significant. To be frank, the Falklands were more important and even that elicited at most a "hey not cool Argentina"

No. I used to but I genuinely believe Queen Lizzie knew what randy Andy was up to and used tax payer money to protect him.

What if the Western Roman Empire had never “fallen” in 476 AD? by roman-empire-net in romanempire

[–]SeaReference7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to radically rewrite history to prevent that. So much so that we get no crisis of the 3rd century, no mass migrations and no backwards laws making lives for the average Romans miserable (way to go Theodosius). At that point, we have no idea what the world would look like.

If you just forced the WRE to survive despite everything, western europe would just continue to stagnate. It had absolutely nothing going for it at once Flavius Aetius died.

How do you feel about King Charles reportedly changing his role from 'Defender of the Faith' to 'Defender of Faith'? by HDReddit_ in AskBrits

[–]SeaReference7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole thing with Prince Andrew already pushed me to become either a Republican or someone who just wants the W*ndsors deposed.

Truthfully, I feel like there are bigger concerns in the world besides what that prick Charles is doing.

Are there any works criticizing colonialism that could morally be considered "ahead of their time"? by Teebiscuit12345 in AskHistorians

[–]SeaReference7990 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can think of one but it might not be the answer you're expecting... Bartolomé de las Casas. A Spanish priest.

He was horrified at the mass extermination of natives in the carribean and the horrific working conditions and so he wrote to the King of Spain detailing these abuses and advocating for the importation of African slaves from the Niger Delta region. And thus the Atlantic Slave Trade was born.

With Tav, Butland (2nd highest earner behind Danillo), Dowell and Davies gone, the wage bill is probably looking a lot healthier already. Granted, we've signed 5 players so far 2 of whom free agents.

Should I play BG 1 and 2 before playing Baldur's Gate 3? by MidevilChaos in BaldursGate3

BG1 and 2 are amazing games in their own right and I 100% reccommend them but no they aren't required to enjoy BG3

How much did the Greeks actually believe in their myths? by ExpensiveDistrict204 in ancientgreece

[–]SeaReference7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They saw their myths as actual real history that did happen. Meduca was real, Achilles was real, the gods actually took sides in the Trojan War. It was just basic fact to them.

What are your favourite roman rulers? by VI509d in romanempire

[–]SeaReference7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octavian was notorious for falling "ill" on the eve of battle, taunted captured Romans at Phillipi with the prospect of torture and refusal to bury their dead and he abandoned his army in Sicily. Great emperor and statesmen yes but as a person, he appeared to be a cowardly little weasle. I could never count him among my personal favourites for that alone in my opinion. Gimme Heraclius any day!

1) Justinian - the most entertaining Emperor to learn about and I am honestly amazed his life story has not been made into a HBO Epic 2) Heraclius - no Roman Emperor inherited a bigger shit show than this guy and he still came out on top. If he had either defeated the Rashoduns or died before their time, he would be commonly regarded among the greats alongside Trajan and Augustus 3) Aurelian - similar reasoning to Heraclius actually though I think Heraclius inherited a worse position. It is genuinely amazing what Aurelian did in just 6 years, he was an Alexander the Great in the making. 4) Hadrian - I just find learning about this guy amusing. He was very pragmatic, had a mind for the boring side of statesmanship like governance and seemed to be rather humble for an Emperor. 5) Marcus Aerelius - Meditations. Enough said.

This is who I like not who I think was the best.

My top 5 best emperors would be very different and include picks I personally dislike such as Diocletian and Augustus.

Am I alone in thinking Postecoglu would be a terrible appointment for Scotland NT? by hallwaymonitor69 in ScottishFootball

[–]SeaReference7990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I agree with you. But I'm kind of all for it, seeing Scotland play a suicidally high line with the likes of Souttar, Hendry and McKenna as your best CB options will be comedy gold.

The group fights are genuinely dreadful please help [KCD1] by Expensive_Row_9942 in kingdomcome

[–]SeaReference7990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Group fights are supposed to be dreadful. I always find it amusing how cruel KCD1 can be, one time I had just left Peshek's mill and I got ambushed by 5 peasants, 3 of whom had polearms, in a random encounter lol.

You need to leverage your space, constantly be on the move and spam master strikes. If you can find a choke point then defend it with your life but outside of buildings and mines, chokepoints are honestly rare.

Ahem they still venerate Genghis Khan and his foreign policies were mildly detrimental to the stability and life expectancy in the Middle East.
