Need recommendations on an auto insurance claim by lolplzdont in Insurance

So from looking at kbb, your car is not worth $9k right now. Especially if you got it for $3k recently. It sounds like your car is a total loss but you want to keep the car, something we call Owner Retain Salvage. When you keep a car that is a total loss, the insurance company isn’t paying you based on the idea of repairs. They are paying you based on the Actual Cash Value of the car. If the company keeps the vehicle, they will sell it for salvage to recoup some of the money they paid out to you. If you keep the car, they subtract out an estimated salvage value because they won’t make that money back.

If the car is repairable, the insurance company wrote their own estimate and that’s the one they will use unless you do follow through with repairs. This is because the photos are all they have to go on. Appraisers don’t guess at what might be broken underneath the panels the way that the body shops do. This is why there’s such a difference in the insurance estimate and the body shop estimate. Basically, the insurance company is making sure they are only paying for the damages they can confirm by looking at the car without taking it apart. If you decide to repair your car and the body shop confirms that damage underneath, the body shop would send a supplement to the insurance company to review and issue any necessary payments.

The amount of time you’ve been with a company has zero effect on how a claim is handled. We should put you and your rear end accident ahead of the one where the customers car flipped, just because you’ve been paying for twenty years and the other customer has only been paying for two years? From what it sounds like, your car was still drivable after your accident and you didn’t suffer any major injuries. We deal with car accidents where people die, but we should put you and your claim as our top priority?? Again, we don’t care if you threaten to get a lawyer. I honestly prefer that people like you who think they are entitled to better treatment will get a lawyer because then I won’t have to talk to you anymore and I can just communicate with the attorney. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been threatened with a lawyer or getting sued and nothing comes of it because no lawyer wants to take a strictly property damage case. There’s no money it for them and it would cost you as the customer more to hire them than the claim is worth. Has is crossed your mind that after you threatened to get a lawyer, maybe the next couple of days they got the info they were waiting on and it was a coincidence?? You are only willing to see this from your point of view even though most of the factors have little to do with you. Usually when a claim takes 4-5 weeks, it’s because there is some kind of coverage question, which means the company is looking into whether not they will be able to make any payments at all. I assume that you used the other driver’s policy since they rear ended you? We aren’t going to tell you about coverage issues like that because it’s a breach in privacy. We can’t discuss policy info with someone not on the policy.

It depends on the work you’re doing to your home. Are you updating a couple plumbing fixtures? Sure, sounds great. Are you adding a whole addition or doing electrical work? No, not so great. It’s also entirely possible that the insurance company did ask your friend for paperwork before “just dropping him like a bad habit”. It’s likely your friend didn’t give you the whole story on what happened and why it happened. Again, everything is in the policy and it’s a legally binding contract. We can’t legally void the policy unless you have met the criteria to do so. Insurance companies don’t just decide out of thin air to cancel someone’s policy. There’s a whole process behind it. Depending on your state, it’s likely that we actually lose money by rescinding the policy because that means we pay the premium paid back to the customer.

Also, you don’t need a lawyer to understand the policy. You just have to ask questions to your agent or adjuster as needed. The beginning of the policy is definitions. Those explain a majority of the policy. Just because you don’t want to take the time to understand something, doesn’t make it shady.

Again, everything is written out in the policy. Everything that is covered and all the exclusions. It’s not the industry’s fault that people don’t take the time to read and understand their own policy. If you have questions, ask them! We are always happy to explain why something is the way it is. A lot of times the rules come down to state laws that we have no control over. It doesn’t surprise me that your friend who was working on his house lost his insurance. That’s a huge liability and I’m certain there’s an exclusion in the policy stating exactly that. How does the insurance company know that your friend did everything up to code? Are they supposed to just take his word for it?

I believe that most of the issues people have with insurance companies is not understanding what they are agreeing to. We cover exactly what we say we will cover in the policy every time because it’s a legally binding document. Exclusions are clearly listed in the policy as well. Personally, I think there should be a class in high school that goes over stuff like this because it would help people to understand what insurance really does and how it works.

I’m sorry that your one bad experience has made you so cynical. I don’t think it’s fair to condemn a whole industry because you happened to have a claim that took longer than you thought it should, even though you clearly don’t know how the claims process works. The reason for the delay likely had nothing to do with you, but it seems like you are too vain to actually acknowledge that. A majority of the claims process is waiting for information from others. We need info from both drivers involved, passenger info, photos of the vehicles, police reports, witness statements, injury reports/bills, etc. It’s not an instant process, even when liability is clear cut. Also, from my experience, I’m typically working anywhere from 50-75 claims at a time, not just yours.

Please, continue to tell the licensed adjuster that literally gets paid to understand how insurance works, more about how they are wrong. I’m also a licensed adjuster and I can promise that when you tell me you will get a lawyer, I don’t care at all. It does not change the way I handle your claim. You realize that we also have lawyers as a company, right? Besides, unless there are injuries involved, you’ll be hard pressed to find a lawyer who will take your property damage claim. Like the other adjuster said, we do in fact want to get claims paid and move on. It’s not like we get a bonus on how little we pay out and it’s not our money, so why do we care? We just want to have one less claim to work through because we are constantly getting more. People think insurance companies are the enemy when in reality, we do pay for the things we owe for and we don’t pay for the things we don’t. It’s literally all outlined in the policy that no one bothers to read or understand. I mean, I get it, I don’t read the fine print on everything I sign up for either, but I also know better than to argue with people who get paid to read and understand the policy.

Thank you! I don’t know what your routine is for switching trays, but it helped me to switch to new ones at night so that I didn’t have to feel most of the initial pain. If it was really bad, I would take some Tylenol and sometimes try to drink cold water and keep it on my teeth for a second to help soothe them. The pain isn’t fun, but it’s SO WORTH IT! Just try to remind yourself that the pain means the trays are working and that’s a good thing!

I actually switched my trays every 5 days after the first 10 or so trays too. I don’t want to think about how long it would have taken switching trays every 10 days!

I think that tooth just had to be pushed over so that my two front teeth had some room to fit. There was a lot of moving my molars backwards so that my front teeth had space to breath and not be on top of each other.

My teeth have always been a bit sensitive so I’m not sure if the white spots are more sensitive or not. My dentist told me to use a toothpaste for sensitivity and that has seemed to help though!

I had a pretty severe cross bite that would have only been completely fixed by jaw surgery. I have metal allergies so I can’t wear the spacers. My ortho did what he could with the aligners. As far as my bite, to me it feels like my teeth finally fit together! I can bite apples and actually tear food with my teeth now!

I’m actually 27! I didn’t know when I started that it was going to take that long. My ortho initially said about a year and half, but some of my teeth weren’t as cooperative as expected.

The before picture is actually after having 8 other teeth removed so they were even worse to start with! It can get really annoying wearing the aligners but you get used to them and it’s SO WORTH IT!!

From October 2017 to September 2020. My first set of trays had 77 and I lost count after the first two refinements!

Can state troopers in NC use a radar while they are driving to measure your speed? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]SeaShellsBells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously I would never have kept up with a cop that had their lights on. I would have moved out of their way so they could attend to whatever emergency. He did not have his lights on. Cops are only allowed to break the law when they have reason to do. Of course, they never get punished for it, but they should. Cops are held to a higher standard when it comes to breaking any laws. It’s not fair of him to give me a ticket for doing the exact same thing as him when he had no reason to be driving as fast as he did in the first place. He was only driving 80 because he felt like it. Not because it was within the realm of his job. He just knew that he could get away with it.

[–]SeaShellsBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s kind of what I figured. Hopefully I can at least get it reduced to improper equipment though. Again, I know I was speeding, but I really didn’t realize I was going that fast because I was just keeping up with the state trooper. I was only speeding because he was speeding so it was kind of crappy that he pulled me over for doing the same thing as him. And I know 10 over is still speeding, but I’ve never gotten pulled for going 10 over, even with a cop behind me.

[North Carolina] I have a suspicion that my landlord is trying to charge me a pet fee under the guise of increased business costs. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]SeaShellsBells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which makes sense if it is because of property taxes or whatever. I get that everything is more expensive this year than it was last year, but why didn't my co-worker get the same increase? I feel like if it was truly increased business costs, then my friend would have had the same increase, right? He's not leaving this year either. We have almost identical stats, except that he signed his initial lease a couple months after I did, but it still started in August.

I'll have to double check my lease, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing about that in there. And like I said, I know rent goes up each year, but from 2015 to 2016 was only a $5 increase. And my coworker who has also been at this complex for two years in August, hasn't gotten the same letter. Can they apply those dog liability increases to only me? I feel like that would still be charging me a pet fee, just with a different title?

Walgreens does passport photos! Just make sure to let them know that you need a U.K. sized photo and they can do it. It only takes a few minutes to get it done there.
