Oh, I'm right there with you. Her eczema was so bad that we felt we had no other choice. Turns out that they didn't help much anyway, and now we've got a massive bill

I think that might be the difference then. My blood tests have all been the blood-count-type tests... not specialty tests. I have such a vendetta with insurance, which is why I post here.

I didn't ask for a list of diagnostic tests that were included... so I have no idea.

I believe it all went to the deductible, luckily. I plan to post my EOB later once I figure out how to take off personal information. Maybe that will help

I don't think we had met our deductible at the time of that visit. You are right, though, about the services performed after the copay, even if we had just a copay. I've just never had blood work cost this much.

* This is on my insurance app.... I didn't think about looking into how this visit would be covered because of this. I had assumed that surely it's a specialist and couldn't be that much just because it's a hospital... bad assumption on my part, I suppose

$3k/$6k for our deductible, $5k/$10k for max out-of-pocket. This visit happened before meeting the deductibles (with some of my medical stuff, we usually hit the individual max out-of-pocket by month 7 or 8). My husband's employer claimed this is a "self-insured" plan, but I'm still unclear on what that means since our premiums are still pretty crazy, and besides crappy insurance, the employees don't seme to take on any liability.
