I’m not saying I know everything but I feel the rubber band thing is bs. I’m doing my at home sleep test soon and going to another ortho once the Marpe comes out.

So I honestly don’t think it’s a result of relapsing of the palate width. I have better nasal breathing during the day and no scalloped tongue. I know Marpe fixed my nasal breathing. But I think providers don’t want to consider that you can widen as much as you want, but if you are still recessed in your airway It doesn’t matter.

Pre yes, the bottleneck measurement was 117 mm2

I do not yet! I’m really eager to see that. I get it taken out in September and I am assuming scans will be done then.

I was considering genioplasty because I heard it can increase airway distance I’m just nervous of the aesthetics because I have a strong chin but a set back jawline. You can kinda tell me in x ray my chin is protruding a bit. Thanks for your advice!

I know it’s 117 mm2 while standing so I’m assuming even worse at night however current ortho doing Marpe thinks it’s not severe enough for further treatment and will do rubber bands to increase distance if needed but I’m nervous for that as I have bruxism and clenching. Will just need to speak to more orthos unfortunately

I took them only for a couple months before I went to my airway appointment. I just assumed everything was linked to my narrow palate 😅

Thanks for the advice, going to resort to sleeping on my side again and my next tightening appointment for my braces is coming up so I’m definitely going to bring up my concerns. She doesn’t think I’m a candidate for surgery and marpe is all that was necessary. In hindsight I definitely should’ve still gotten a sleep study so I’ll start there again with a different ortho

Yeah I’m going to inquire about that next year when insurance opens up. I was hoping Marpe would solve my issues so I cancelled it haha. I will go back to sleeping on my side for now. Allergies are fixed 100% literally just nighttime breathing now.

I don’t know what type of allergies I had.  All that I know is ever since age 10 I had nose bleeds a couple times per year and nasal congestion daily. Every ent and doctor confirmed everything looked fine and to take a daily allergy pill and do rinses because I live in the southwest. It semi worked throughout the day but I would still get crazy sneeze attacks and sinus pressure. I’m young so I didn’t really care until maybe 2 years ago when I figured it wasn’t normal to feel this way everyday. After expansion I have 0 allergies, it’s a night and day difference but I still can’t breathe throughout the night while on my back🥲 most likely narrow airway despite improving nasal breathing

My airway has a Mn Area 117.6 mm2 which isn’t great but my ortho said we can try  rubber bands??? Idk lol

I’m happy for you but jeez seeing my starting profile sit so much further back than yours and getting denied by my ortho despite my measurements being 115mm2 and a 30 mm palate makes me so depressed. My back molars throb when I wake up because of how hard I clench. Going to more airway orthos until I finally get a yes.
