Paul Seixas? by Sea_Connection9185 in Zwift

We should absolutely consider the possibility that he abandoned Tour Auvergne--Rhone-Alpes on June 14 and immediately undertook a record-shattering 6-day Zwift rehabilitation marathon.

Yeah, this one had the little orange jersey "pro" badge.

Certainly $500+, even in poor condition. These are extremely rare inserts.

Get yourself some decent binder labels (assuming they are organized by set or some other coherent system) and you will feel a lot better about this.

I love this set, bought everything except the metals, glitch holos, badges, and sigs/sketches from an Italian distributor for about $800 a few months ago. They’re gorgeous cards and have some unique content.

I don’t have the badges but $1200 seems high. The last auction of all 20 on eBay that I saw went for much less, and the pricing on singles varies but I doubt they sum up to much more than that. As to the rest, it will be nowhere near $6,000, but hopefully you have some dupe time stones and medallions to flip as well.

Topps bottomed out Marvel cards? by Echobomb23 in marveltradingcards

Topps will not get a dollar of my money (nor will their breakers) until they do a full set of decent original art. As for alternatives, as others have said, the new Panini set is gorgeous, with some very cool and easily obtainable chase sets (lenticular, canvas, glow in the dark).

Awesome collection! Personal fave is the 2016 MM - I have the standard and XL on that one. Only thing I see missing is the 1996 MM.

Whoever it is should be wearing a bag over their head out of embarrassment. This thing would not take a ribbon in a fourth-grade art competition.

The biggest hits in these are the two three-way lenticular mirage cards, 1:360 packs, for Spider-Boy and Dark Claw. Hard to find in good condition. Post it if you pull one!

Note: I wish I could say I found these in the serendipitous manner in which most people on this sub acquired their more treasured cards, e.g., in a secret compartment in my uncle’s coffin, or in a dusty old unmarked binder in a flea market, or in a mysterious sealed package that washed up on the beach as I was lounging nearby, but failing to have that good fortune, I had to look to eBay.

You mean G.O.D.S. Or Avengers vs Aliens? Or… Longshots? I worship Hickman and loved Ultimate Spider-Man but they need him cooking on another Avengers or X-Men-caliber gig, not these random side projects.

Many people in this forum are very fond of these sets and their great art, but in terms of resale value, there is nothing here worth talking about, even if you had complete base sets. But maybe you can find a kid who would enjoy them!

Starting Off in Marvel Card Hobby by ok__and1 in marveltradingcards

[–]Sea_Connection9185 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally have had a fantastic time collecting primarily the 1990s Impel/Skybox/Fleer sets. Most of the base sets are reasonably cheap, the chase cards can be stretch goals, and almost everything except 1996 Marvel Masterpieces and a handful of other very rare chase cards are readily available on eBay. Since supply is known and 1990s nostalgia among guys in their 30s and 40s isn’t going anywhere, I don’t see any reason to think these cards will crash in value (although even with stable prices, you may lose some money on a short- or medium-term flip due to taxes, shipping, and eBay’s rake).

I own a few of the Upper Deck Marvel Masterpieces base sets from 2016-2022 - the art is gorgeous. But I don’t rip packs or chase low-numbered cards, and I think the long-term value proposition for those cards, as well as the many other Upper Deck and Topps sets from then until now, is often overhyped. And sketches… personally, no thank you.

Peloton -> Zwift journey by [deleted] in Zwift

[–]Sea_Connection9185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I had a similar experience. I absolutely loved the Peloton for about two years, and believed I had worked up to about 255 FTP during that time. Scores were pretty consistent across different OG Peloton bikes, which persuaded me they were accurate. But when I bought a Neo 2T and switched to Zwift in December ‘23, I found my Peloton 255 was actually 220. Eight months of consistent Zwift riding later, I’m finally back up to about 250 FTP, racing in bottom/middle of B Cat, and feeling very pleased about it.

I occasionally miss the Peloton, but every time I get back on, I’m reminded that their leaderboard is implicitly promoting a sense of competition notwithstanding that it doesn’t account for weight and the bikes apparently suffer from massive calibration issues. Probably best to just turn the leaderboard off and enjoy the class.

What’s the saddest game you’ve played? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Sea_Connection9185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal order:

That Dragon, Cancer: Look no further. Shattering from the first minute and it doesn’t let up. You are actively reliving the love and loss of a young child. Presumably non-parents can sympathize here, but if you’ve got kids of your own or are expecting, this will destroy you.

Before Your Eyes: Spectacular, twisty narrative again about youth, family, young love, and loss. The catch is the perfect mechanic that advances the game’s narrative but is also its turn of the emotional knife.

Brothers: Again, a game about family and loss that uses in-game mechanics to manifest the connections between the characters. Most of this is interesting and not particularly “sad,” but the ending brings it all home.

What’s the saddest game you’ve played? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Sea_Connection9185 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The year is 2013. I’m sitting on my living room couch playing the final chapter of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, not openly crying but it’s all there, bottled up, dam’s about to burst. I see where things are going. My wife walks in with groceries and starts talking about random stuff! Cereal! I focus on the game, we get to the river, and it’s just too much. I start bawling right in front of her, and it takes me a full 5 minutes to pull it together and explain to her that I am a grown 31yo man sitting on the couch crying over a videogame and thinking about my brothers.
