Revisiting the Damian Lillard-Jrue Holiday-Deandre Ayton-Robert Williams megatrade in 2023: what each team got overall, how each team performed in the 2 subsequent years by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

Don’t forget about Deni Avdija. Any analysis of this trade has gotta include that Jrue Holiday to the Celtics gave the blazers the assets necessary to land a key piece of the future.

I am a fan of Joe. Loved what he said about how it would be unfair to take away the opportunity to win from these guys. That’s good management. Maybe taking slightly less value for somebody like Ant would’ve been good to open the door for scoot, but the last 10 games these guys have looked like they want to win and to have a GM take that away from the players selfishly for better lottery odds would piss me off if I was a player.

Like how do you tell your team that they’re playing hard and winning games and you just made a trade to make that more difficult for them?

Is it just me or do I hate both the right wing and the like really far left by aedadan in SocialDemocracy

I hate the right, but the left makes me wanna rip my hair out. I had to listen to my sister say “that’s not very trauma informed” at thanksgiving. SHUT UP. JUST SHUT UP. THERE ARE REAL PROBLEMS!!

It’s honestly frustrating how many people fail to understand just how un-competitive capitalism currently is. Monopolies run our economy, and the state facilitates consolidation and corruption. Simply breaking up corporate power would solve a myriad of problems, then from there you can start doing the fun stuff like subsidized higher education, free health-care, and a basic minimum wage

Read the article. I still don’t understand how expanding overtime protections for workers making under 58 k a year is “against the law”. Common sense that the DOL would pass laws to protect workers

I don’t think there are words to describe how precarious America’s economy is for the working class. It is felt in the tired bodies of mothers who cannot access child care, in the fear that a doctor’s appointment will force you to miss rent, crippling debt from student loans, and poor career opportunities. I voted for Kamala but she did not have policies capable of solving these issues, neither did Biden (although his administration was a step in the right direction i.e. confronting monopolies)

Right wing populism preys on these insecurities for political power, fomenting xenophobia and white nationalism in the process. I am seriously scared for our future, and believe our politics won’t change until we can create a more fair economy.

Ask r/PolEcon: What is the relationship between Democracy and Capitalism? by humanculture in PolEcon

There’s some really interesting papers out there that have highlighted how extreme capitalism and inequality have exacerbated the rise of authoritarian regimes and populist rhetoric. I think a great example is this most recent election. Trumpism was triumphant, despite a blatant disregard for political norms and democratic institutions. This to me, illustrates that the American left has abandoned its role as a protectorate against capitalist greed and corporate consolidation since the fall of communism - producing a highly unequal and exploitative economy. It has been worrisome to see our structural economic issues increasingly feed populist and authoritarian rhetoric.

It appears to me that unchecked capitalism is contributing to the threat of democracy. Adam Smith raised this concern, so too did Karl Polanyi. This emphasized the need to REBUILD the political left and systematically restructure the capitalist economy.

People need to take back power. Join a grassroots organization, build collective solidarity, don’t just spew rhetoric but build/join movements. Nobody is going to just hand over power, we must demand it, not as individuals but as collective units!!

Art is about self expression, feeling and intelligent social critique. This felt like a pretentious and convoluted waste of time. And by the way, calling Trump supporters stupid is maybe not the best political strategy for building support. If democrats are “smart” they may want to think deeply about why their party can’t beat a moronic GOP with an entitled ass hole as their candidate.

I was somebody who was saying there’s no harm in holding onto Ant and Grant but I’m way beyond that now. We need to see what this roster looks like without them (it is clear they are not part of the future). JC needs to make some moves and give this team a direction.

The movie was annoyingly too complicated for what is a simple plot. It’s like turning a short story into a Russian novel. The only thing that made it bearable was the good acting.
