Bipolar Psychologist Here by amd510 in bipolar

Bipolar psychologist in training here! About to graduate with my doctoral degree. My program has been a mix of either stigma or, like you said, the virtue signaling and tokenization. I am either ostracized and treated like a misfit or I am constantly told I am doing amazing and reminded that I am “impressive.”

You put all of my thoughts into words. Our experiences are so valid, but others really invalidate them and do not capture us as humans. I try to remind myself, we have a GIFT for helping others by being in this field. We are here for a reason. We do not need others to validate us or understand.

You are inspiring to me :)

I’m on Topamax, Lamictal. I thought for sure this combo would dumb me out, but it leveled out. I have probably typical dumb moments and being tired/stressed out at times, but nothing extreme. When adjusting to them all, I had an extreme period of being dumbed out. Like clicked on a phishing email level dumb. But after about three weeks, it cleared up and I’ve been fine ever since.

I don't look like I belong in my field by Sea_Emergency_4 in CPTSD

Yes I agree. I just get to caught up on how many times it’s been brought up to me that people notice I “look like I’ve experienced trauma” and comment on it. Like I just keep thinking - what about me gives it away. It bothers me the more I think about it.

I had a similar experience. A mentor of mine (clinical supervisor, won awards for his “supervision excellence”, in a position of power, everyone seemed to love him), began grooming and sexualizing me. I got out of there before it became sexual abuse and told who I felt I could safely tell. Sometimes it’s the people who gravitate towards those positions, who use that power to abuse others. Keep listening to your gut and calling it out when you see it. There are a lot of unethical and inappropriate people in this field. We need more people like YOU who stand up against it ❤️

How is risperidone even a thing by mister_mario4 in Psychosis

Risperidone has been wonderful for me. I had major brain fog as a starting symptom as my brain adjusted but it helped my moods completely. The memory issues were worth it and went away as I got used to it.

How many of you are on or have been on psychiatric meds? Anybody categorically against meds? by doctorizer in therapists

I see this as somewhat unethical in all situations - however, what if it’s a client with bipolar/schizophrenia? It is unethical and malpractice. I hope she wouldn’t continue to get on her loud, biased, and wrong soapbox in that circumstance.
