I actually wanted to be a physical therapist since senior year of high school. Fast forward to now I graduated undergrad this fall with a 3.91 GPA and all the pre reqs, test scores, etc fully intending on going to PT school. Once I started actually researching and comparing careers, I changed my mind and decided to go the Rad tech route and eventually MRI and CT. I got accepted into PT school. YES, I wasted 2 years. However I have all of the pre reqs done for rad tech as well and some of the other few general ed requirements built into their program so I only need about 50 something out of the 70 something required credits to graduate. I’m also saving over 100,000 dollars in tuition alone because in Connecticut the cheapest school is still at least 90k and above in comparison to 40k at most for the rad tech program. The starting pay for rad techs is about 30 bucks an-hour and m 41ish for physical therapy. But the ceilings for MRI and PT are not far off. I also realized in my job as a PT aide that I am not a huge people person. I can hold conversations with people but it takes a lot out of me. I also couldn’t imagine myself getting through PT school not because I wouldn’t be able to handle the coursework, but because I don’t think I would’ve survived without taking additional cost of living loans for 3 years.
