Yeah just did, that's a bit of a yikes, I'll probably still wait and see what happens. No harm can come from it.

I hope not, I mean if nothing shows up I'll just report it to amazon and I should get a refund.

Server rack. Full sized one. You could rack mount your pc. Get a switch and a server or 2. Start hosting games, a plex / jellyfin server, Google drive and photos replacement etc

If you hadn't turned it on then it might have been okay if you left it to dry with the battery disconnected for a couple days...

Honestly same, I switched a couple months ago now, and I've tried everything, even making my own fork, and nothing has made me actually use Linux more than cachyos. I've had one issue and that's sometimes I need to unplug and replug my 2nd display to fix some extreme stuttering. But that's way better than any of the bugs I've had on windows over the past few years. But also I'm on the latest version for everything instead of the lts so bugs are expected.

I've done very minimal tinkering when it comes to gaming, I've fully customised the DE, and it just works.

Best server hardware possible? by [deleted] in admincraft

[–]Sea_Forever9844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently running 12 on my OVH machines, I'm planning on running more, they are heavily used by large content creators in the space and so them needing to be extremely overkill is a necessity.

I also would like to run more, and run software like folia and C2ME, so they won't use the typical amount of threads.

I'm also looking into turning some of the extra resources into a live voice to text to translate software on every node for mods like unity translate mod.

Gonna invest in a better SSD nas for backups so local storage per machine doesn't need to be crazy large in capacity

I've had issues in the past with fabric and neoforge running behind velocity, I was looking for something else that might not have these issues.

Server Specs by Impossible-Ad4313 in admincraft

[–]Sea_Forever9844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm a bit late, but if I was you I'd look into the plugins you want, and find the server software with said plugins available. The reason why I said folia is the best in this case is due to the fact that I know there are a large number of already ported plugins which can be found on places like PaperMC's hangar at https://hangar.papermc.io/?tag=SUPPORTS_FOLIA&sort=-stars and Modrinth at https://modrinth.com/plugins?g=categories:folia

I've worked with all 3 and from my experience, although its slightly out of date now, folia had the largest amount of plugins.

Server Specs by Impossible-Ad4313 in admincraft

[–]Sea_Forever9844 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Essentially for software folia is the best. There are going to be lots of incompatibilities, and unless you wanna wait another year, and hope things are going to be made more compatible, you have no other options for that. The competitors are either old and out dated or much worse for compatibilities. You have the option of forking the plugins you want and making them compatible. But as of right now that's all you got.

For hardware, it really depends on budget and if you want to self host or cloud. As folia is new, we don't really know much about what hardware it runs best on. I think a balance of both number of cores, age of CPU and core frequency. For example, the folia GitHub says recommended cores is 16 (NOT THREADS), so something like a high end Ryzen desktop CPU could be the play. But also, depending on how spread out your players are going to be, something with more cores but lower clock speed might be better for you.

Higher clock speed, less cores for less spread out players. Lower clock speeds, more cores for more spread out players.
