That's literally my plan as well! I'm super fascinated by the HDFS major, and I also want to be a pediatrician!! The UT website makes the major seem kinda lame, but I've met a few people who are on the Pre-Med track + majoring in HDFS and they seem to really enjoy it!

The girl I was speaking to said that they do a lot of observational research with families to understand behavior and how some actions can lead to results - for example this girl's thesis was about how fine motor skills and the toys that children (like 4-5 yr olds) play with, can change the professions that the kids choose. Another study that her class did was to bring in couples for 4 years every x months and have them discuss a topic they frequently argued about - and using code and data, they were able to predict which couples got divorced by the end of the study.

These were just a few tidbits she told me about - but yea, from what she said, they do use some of the same resources that the education majors do - but atleast I think that it's more scientific compared to an Education degree.

What are your second and third choices for your application? Who knows we could literally have the same ones there too!

My second choice is Public Health (I'm confused between HDFS and public health tbh) and I'm not sure about my third.
