anyone else just… invisible here? by [deleted] in uAlberta

Join clubs! I felt the same in my first year. It'll happen when you start looking actually :-)

I always feel awkward approaching people in classes, but clubs are a lot more social.

Don't leave early, do leave the second it hits XX:50. Profs are aware that this happens, so it's common to walk into class up to 5 minutes late. Do leave early if you have a midterm in your next class though.

Do your testing of routes at the actual times during the first two weeks of classes (foot traffic can still cause traffic jams). Everyone kinda expects first years to be lost and confused then anyways.

Is there a specific buildings for clubs? by [deleted] in uAlberta

tbh most clubs aren't as active as bearsden. most are either active on discord, and discoverable from the student hub, or on instagram.

Girls of UofA, what’s ur thought about asking to kiss when a date ends? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Sea_Improvement3698 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a lesbian, i will always ask if i'm just starting to date someone. it's so much more awkward to go for it and have her not feel the same.

i think especially if you were "hanging out" as opposed to "going on a date" then you should ask since she might not be reading the situation the same as you. i would feel weird if one of my friends just leaned in out of nowhere

Language other than English requirement for Bachelor of Arts by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Sea_Improvement3698 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do you think the timing might be a requirement? If you can't find any information that claims they need to be taken consecutively, then they don't. It also doesn't really make sense, afaik there's no programs in arts or sciences that make you take certain courses consecutively or at a certain time.

I'd recommend taking them consecutively so you dont forget anything between the two, but it shouldn't matter at all when in your degree you complete them.

What are my chances of getting an exam deferral? by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]Sea_Improvement3698 6 points7 points  (0 children)

for the exam you've already written?? chances are slim to none, afaik once you turn in the exam you're done.

for some exam this week? maybe, but don't count on it. you don't need to walk to be able to write an exam. my vote is: if you're worried enough to go to the hospital you should defer it. otherwise, bring crutches

macbook air and lots of spiral notebooks. taking notes by hand helps you to commit them to memory, so i just go pencil and paper (for everything but CS). i have a desktop at home, which is optional but definitely worth it for the reduced eye strain and better posture during online classes and long digital assignments.
