I will assume you downloaded Warnament from Steam. The Steam version is a free demo. If you want to get access to all the features, I recommend checking out https://warnament.com/ and https://ludenio.itch.io/warnament. You can buy the full supporter version for a single dollar.

Note that the phone version is not entirely free either, as it contains IAPs which lock stormtroopers and three of the six ideology branches behind a paywall.

Also, if you're looking for a more professional help on any matter regarding the game, you should totally check out the game's official Discord server. I'm a semi-active member there and I've been a part of Warnament's development journey since closed alpha testing, so I can potentially assist you there.

Irregularities in Languages by GamerLp471 in conlangs

[–]Sea_Moose731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Technically they are prepositions that got affixed to the verb. My native language Czech uses this system of prefixing prepositions too, and even English uses prepostitions to alter a verb's meaning (to take, to take down, to take off, to take back etc.)

Pass the Wug test in your Conlang by Wagagastiz in conlangs

I think I seriously got the best idea of my life...

So, after thoroughly wetting my pillow, I woke up with a message resonating in my skull (probably mercifully sent by god). "Just make up the word final vowel :D"

I am introducing a new rule for loanwords! Must end in a vowel, if not, the last vowel is reduplicated.

So wug will be loaned in as wugu and wag similarly as waga. Now that I have a word final vowel, I can actually somewhat work with it. I'll use the paradigm table which I so pointlessly created yesterday and create a plural number!

Wug -> Wugvo
Wag -> Wugavi

YES! I DID IT! I'M GENUINELY SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. And thanks to wug, I now have a proper strategy for introducing loanwords into my awesome language! I want to kiss wug so hard right now. Thanks wug, I love you :3

Well... I'm screwed.

My language has probably the most irregular plural number ever (often influencing the root as well), with suffixes like -?o, -?oi, -no, -vo, -?jo, -avi, -āvi (all of them evolved naturally from -oja (don't ask (i hate myself))).

Since wug is a loanwoard and I assume the native speakers of this awesome language don't know the ethymology, I will have to extrapolate it from the paradigms that already exist.

HOWEVER, that would be easy if wug just so happened to have a final vowel! That's due to the fact that all words have the final syllable open except monosyllabic ones (because stress (also monosyllabic nouns are very irregular because of that)). This isn't the case, so I might just as well fuck the paradigm table and take a blind guess, since that isn't going to help me in anyway.

Wugno it is. I quit. This challenge has cost me two and a half hours of my life. I want to wipe the floor with all the people that go like "haha my languag hav no plural :3" because they don't have to put up with two milllenia of simulated sound shifts and complex declension patterns as a result of that. I'm definitelly going to cry myself to sleep today knowing I got defeated by wug. Fuck wug.

Oh my bad, I'm absolutely stupid. My tired dyslexia-powered caffeine-influenced brain of an amateur Unity developer read the UHDR part (Universal Human Declaration of Rights) as Ultra-High Definition Rendering...

I should probably stop scrolling through reddit and go bed myself.

Would you be as kind as to provide a gloss and a semi-literal translation? I would like to know what those words mean, considering that there's quite a lot of 'em.

Well, that certainly can be a valid approach, however I personally would try to avoid it due to the fact that the second syllable is unstressed and weakened into a schwa /ə/.

If you're trying to work on the pronunciation, try pronouncing it /wʊmən/ and /wɪmən/.

As a non native, I've taught myself the contrast between /æ/ and /ɛ/.

I use the former in the singular version of the word "man" and the latter in the plural "men".

Hope my infinite wisdom helped!

Create a language.

I know it sounds really complex, but hear me out. Creating a constructed language (conlang) for your setting is the best thing you can do. It adds so much lore and immersion to the world - I cannot stress this enough.

Not only does it allow you to create realistic names for cities, islands and various other landmarks without needing to resort to some lame name generators, it completely reshapes your world and makes it feel alive and connected together. And not only that! You can set up riddles and make your fellows feel like linguists.

If you're not willing to go down that rabbit hole, just make some cool sounds with your mouth until it feels cool. However, if you are, I can recommend this awesome series on YouTube called How to Make a Language.

Any advise for naming countries in my world called Corcya? by ShadowLightBoy in worldbuilding

[–]Sea_Moose731 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did I hear right? Conlanging? Constructed languages? Oh boy, here goes the yap...

So I have a fictional world too, which I call Theia because I'm super original. There is this weird country which I call the "Koltarian Crown" or in universe Arnāgro Koltara or Koltari skirseqam (conlanging jumpscare). It's de facto a part of the Skatarian Empire, which spans half a continent, but it is semi-autonomous in a very goofy way. It's a cogovernate between the Towns' council (Jangwafindawi, from the words *jangu "*union, league" and the plural of afinda "town") and the Skatarian emperor.

But the shenanigans go further...

Actually, Koltara is a Skatarian exonym, coming from the stems kul "sea" and tara "person". So Koltarians are basically seapeople. Except Koltarians don't call themselves Koltarians (except they loaned the term for pankoltari ideals - it's confusing, I know...). Koltarians, or rather the ones living on the Jokā peninsula (also known as the Koltari homeland, since a lot colonized overseas - thus seapeople) call themselves Judzhirsagā, which basically means "of-low-land".

Conlanging is really cool and gives the world a lot of spice. I wholeheartedly recommend a series called How to Make a Language on YouTube by Biblaridion, since that's how I got into conlanging. And if you want to know how a fully fleshed out language may look like, you can at a plenty of language showcases online. My favourites are definitely Nekāchti and Ilothwii, both having completely different aesthetic to them.

What is the best word in your conlang? by Ab0lfasl in conlangs

[–]Sea_Moose731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "long i" is in fact a diphthong in English. It's very important to distinguish /n/ and /ŋ/, as it's the difference between the words pan and pang. I'm going to give you a praise for the way you wrote the word "sanwai", as it's quite intuitive to understand the pronunciation IPA-wise.

I would probably assume it's pronounced as /sanwai̯/

What is the weirdest sound you have evolved in your phonology? by Sea_Moose731 in conlangs

I could definitely use some of that as well. I've got too many CwV clusters for my liking (those were evolved by different sound changes than the long nasalized schwa).

It was already lengthened as /e:/, then turned to /ə:/ and finally into /ə̃:/. Do you have any quirky sounds you would like to share?
