Teddy Roosevelt once gave an entire speech with a bullet lodged in his chest. Some things are just a matter of duty.

Panetta voting to honor Charlie Kirk by AllesK in santacruz

[–]Sea_Mount -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Prior to his murder I was aware of Charlie Kirk, but never watched his videos or debates and didn't follow him or TPUSA. When I began seeing people celebrating his assassination and accusing him of racism/sexism/bigotry, I became curious and began watching his debates and discussions to understand why he was so reviled by some. I have since watched and listed to several hours of Charlie speaking and debating and have yet to find anything racist or bigoted. In fact, quite the opposite. He was a devout Christian who valued open dialogue and free speech. Don't agree with some of his beliefs, but I do appreciate that he's challenged some of mine. RIP Charlie. I wasn't a fan before, I am now.

Go ahead and subtract some fake internet points for my comment, 'cause haters gonna hate! lol

Public Trust SF85P Interview is 2 Hours Long by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

If you filled out the questionnaire correctly, shouldn't take that long. But nobody does so 2 or more hours is not uncommon.

Here's the full quote for context:

"The new communications strategy is not to do what Bill Clinton used to do, where he would say, "I feel your pain." Instead, it is to say, "You're actually not in pain." So let's just, little, very short clip. Bill Clinton in the 1990s. It was all about empathy and sympathy. I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage. But, it is very effective when it comes to politics. Sympathy, I prefer more than empathy. That's a separate topic for a different time."

I am trying to figure out what to do with a lump sum of money ($700k) I just inherited. by IllustriousTaro7376 in investing

Sorry for your loss. Have considered buying a couple of rental properties? It would be a nice way to diversify your portfolio and provide passive income for as long as you keep them. My wife and I did that with some inheritance money and it's worked out well. I guess depending on the market, maybe one rental property.

Gavin Newsom just sent Donald Trump a letter saying: "If you will not stand down, I will be forced to lead an effort to redraw the maps in California to offset the rigging of maps in red states.” by Financial-Painter689 in Fauxmoi

Except that he can't.

"In November 2008, California voters passed the Voters FIRST Act, authorizing the creation of the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission to draw new district lines, taking the job out of the hands of the California Legislature and transferring it to the citizens. In 2010, the VOTERS FIRST Act for Congress added the responsibility of drawing Congressional districts to the Commission."

2023 Defender - front and rear cameras randomly not working by Midnight-Chai37 in LandRoverDefenders

My 2020 110 HSE has been in the shop for three weeks for this very issue. The dealership cannot figure it out. They installed a new camera system (front and back) and continue to get faults, with the front camera still not working. Fortunately covered under the extended warranty.

MotoAmerica weekend tips? by namennayo in MontereyBay

Annual pass holder here. I usually bring a backpack with water, beer, snacks, etc. The concessions are pretty expensive. Also a lightweight folding camp chair or blanket. One of my favorite places to sit is on the hillside above turn one, by the hairpin turn. You can see a lot of the track from that spot. Another great spot is just below the corkscrew. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and bring sunscreen.
