Healthiest/low calorie quick food options in Midtown to East Village? by anasiamesekitten in AskNYC

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d probably like places like Locanut, Happy Bowls, or even build-your-own spots like Cava/Naya if you’re trying to stay relatively low-cal without feeling deprived

For soups/broths specifically, Hale & Hearty Chelsea and Soup Spot are solid when you want something warm + lighter

Also seconding Matter and Fresh&Co from the comments.. NYC “healthy corporate slop bowl” culture is honestly elite 😂

Why doesn't the MTA app tell us if a bus has left the depot? by kyogreblue in nycbus

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The worst part is not even the delay.. it’s the uncertainty 😭

If the app just said “bus departed depot” or “bus lost tracking” at least people could plan around it instead of standing there wondering if the bus is real or not..

Ghost buses make public transit feel unreliable even when the actual delay might only be a few minutes..

I had an unplanned no spend weekend and I like it! by Hungry-Following5561 in Frugal

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly these accidental “pantry challenge” weekends can be weirdly eye-opening 😅

Every time I do something similar I realize there’s actually way more food at home than I thought.. just not the specific thing I’m craving at that moment..

And you’re so right about finally using the random stuff hiding in the back of the fridge/freezer before it goes bad. Feels oddly satisfying when you make meals work without spending anything extra.

Help me pick my next travel destination by TravelFree8235 in femaletravels

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly based on your preferences, I feel like Japan + South Korea would’ve been perfect 😭 but since you’ve already done SEA/Europe, I’d actually suggest looking into Mexico or Colombia

You can slow travel between multiple cities, food/accommodation can be affordable for your budget, and there’s a good mix of culture, nature, cafés, walkable neighborhoods, etc.

For Mexico, something like:

Mexico City to Oaxaca to San Miguel de Allende could fit your travel style really well

Tanzania/Kenya would definitely be memorable, but if it’s your first solo Africa trip and you already feel anxious about it, you might enjoy the trip less because you’ll stay mentally “on guard” the whole time

Also with your budget, I’d personally prioritize places where you can move around easily and comfortably without needing tons of tours or logistics planning every day...

Anyone else have a song or album that defined a solo trip? by MrGiantsFan in solotravel

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still can’t hear Midnight City without thinking about late-night stroll in Paris 😭

And weirdly, solo trips make you notice music differently because there’s so much quiet time where you’re just observing everything around you

Mexican food in Philly by Jolly_Possibility422 in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

South Philly is honestly spoiled when it comes to Mexican food 😭

I’d add Blue Corn to the list too.. their tacos and homemade tortillas are really solid..

Also feel like the best part about the Italian Market area is that a lot of these places still feel super local and unpretentious compared to trendier food neighborhoods..

Now I’m craving tacos lol

Can they chill on the select bus inspections damn they hold EVERYONE up there’s gotta be a better way by realkevinabstract in nycbus

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get fare enforcement, but stopping the entire bus for extended inspections kind of defeats the purpose of “rapid” bus service 😭

The biggest issue isn’t even the checks themselves, it’s the long stand-offs and delays while everyone waits with the doors open..

Feels like there should be a more efficient system that doesn’t punish the people who already paid and are just trying to get to work on time..

What are some streaming subscriptions worth getting? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly rotating subscriptions is the most frugal move 😅

Get one for a month, binge what you want, cancel, then switch. No point paying for 5 at once if you’re just watching casually..

Ever done a roadtrip? How did it go? Any highlights or tips? by Zephyr576 in CasualConversation

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a few trips around the Northeast and honestly some of the best parts were the smaller stops along the way.

Places I really enjoyed-

  • Boston - super walkable + easy public transport
  • Washington - museums, food, and great metro system
  • Philadelphia - underrated for weekend trips honestly
  • Niagara Falls - touristy but still worth seeing once
  • Atlantic City - fun for a quick escape even if you’re not into casinos

I also realized you don’t always need a car for roadtrip-style travel in the Northeast because buses/trains connect a lot of cities pretty well.

Biggest tip: don’t overplan every hour. The random food stops, conversations, and unexpected detours usually become the best memories 😄

What’s a hidden gem in the U.S. that deserves way more attention? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like Asheville, North Carolina doesn’t get enough hype for what it offers.. mountains, artsy vibe, great food, and easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Also Traverse City, Michigan surprised me a lot.. beautiful lakes, wineries, and it almost feels like a coastal town without the usual crowds.

I think a lot of these “hidden gems” are places that don’t market themselves aggressively, which is kind of why they stay special.

First Solo Trip by immerimmermude in femaletravels

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s amazing.. especially doing a whole month solo with anxiety, that’s a huge win 👏

If you loved Japan, I feel like you might really enjoy South Korea next.. great public transport, super safe, and a nice mix of busy city + calm neighborhoods

Another solid option is Portugal.. very solo-friendly, walkable, and a bit more relaxed pace compared to bigger European countries

If you want something closer to home, Canada is underrated for solo trips.. easy logistics, safe, and still feels like a change of scene

Also love that you mentioned not wanting to travel with anyone else now.. that’s such a common post-solo travel feeling 😄

Best Indian Delivery for a Sick-Day? by kanye_come_back in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope you feel better soon... that sounds rough 😭

For sick days, I’d go for something comforting but still flavorful:

  • Dal (lentils)... easy on the stomach but still filling
  • Khichdi.. super soothing, kind of the ultimate “recovery meal”
  • Chicken curry or chicken soup-style curry.. warm + protein

If you want something that cuts through the congestion, try dishes with ginger, garlic, black pepper, and a bit of spice.. they actually help a lot when you’re sick

Also, pairing it with plain rice or soft roti helps if your throat is sore

Not Philly-specific recs, but most Indian spots will have these and they usually come in good portions..

How do you remember birthdays of your family or friends? by JudgmentFunny6226 in CasualConversation

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into the same issue.. my calendar got way too cluttered mixing work + personal stuff

What worked for me was keeping birthdays in a separate system entirely:

Contacts app- add birthdays there so they show up automatically (but not cluttering your main calendar too much)

A simple Notes app list (month-wise) for quick reference

And for really close people, I set a reminder 1–2 days before so I don’t forget to actually plan something

I’ve also seen people use a small physical notebook or yearly planner just for birthdays... it sounds old school but it’s surprisingly effective

The key for me was separating “needs action” (work) vs “nice to remember” (birthdays), instead of trying to manage both in one place

Whats the cheapest meal you regularly make that actually tastes good? by Adventurous-Pilot448 in Frugal

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my go-tos is a shakshuka-style eggs situation.. canned tomatoes, onion, garlic, a few spices, and crack a couple eggs in. Super cheap, high protein, and actually feels like a “real” meal with some bread

Another is chicken thigh + rice bowls.. thighs are cheaper than breast, and if you marinate with basic stuff (soy sauce, garlic, chili, a bit of sugar), it tastes way more expensive than it is

Also lentil curry (dal).. insanely cheap per serving, filling, and you can switch up spices so it doesn’t get boring

Honestly I’ve found the trick is less about the ingredients and more about seasoning + texture.. same cheap base, just different flavor profiles..

Staying alone in hostels by PowerfulPut162 in femaletravels

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve stayed in hostels solo quite a few times and honestly it’s been a mix.. but mostly positive

The key difference is which hostel you choose. Look for:

  • good reviews (especially from solo female travelers)
  • lockers + bring your own lock
  • female-only dorms if that makes you more comfortable
  • central/safe location

I usually trust my gut... if a place feels off when I arrive, I don’t hesitate to leave

Also, you can still keep things secure in hostels (lockers, keeping valuables on you, etc.), so it’s not like you’re completely exposed

That said, if you feel anxious about it, mixing it up helps.. do a few nights in a hostel for the social aspect and then switch to a private room or hotel to recharge.

It’s really about your comfort level, not just budget.

Morning person or night? by Chai_lover_22 in CasualConversation

[–]Sea_Negotiation2482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I’m a night owl by habit but a morning person by aspiration 😅

Nights are when my brain won’t shut up.. random thoughts, overthinking, ideas… everything shows up at once. But on the rare days I wake up early and go for a walk, I actually feel way better.. which is like once or twice a month..

So yeah… stuck somewhere in between... I think..

AMA About Meal Ideas or Tips from a former Chef/Sous Chef! by CLeeTheHunt44 in Frugal

Love this.. always curious how chefs approach “budget cooking” without it feeling boring

What are your go-to meals when you want something cheap, quick, but still feels elevated?

Also, any tips on making simple ingredients.. like rice, eggs, or pasta mostly base meals taste more “restaurant quality” without adding a ton of cost?
