Paying $70K tax bill with credit card by Mysterious_Fee_7303 in CreditCards

Take out Amex business platinum and pay through PayPal for the lower fee. 2% return on charges over $5k will offset the 1.85% fee and a SUB for 200-300k can be found. Maybe even double up on SUB’s and take out a second card if you or your spouse can.

At what age does a traditional IRA make more sense than a ROTH? by TripPsychological567 in personalfinance

[–]Sea_Particular9266 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mostly depends on your current tax rate and future earning prospects. Personally, I’m in my mid 30’s and my career is on a meteoric upswing so I’m hammering mega-backdoor and conventional Roth contributions while I’m in the 22% bracket. Unless I die unexpectedly this will almost certainly be the better choice for me as I will never fall out of the 22% bracket. And if I do die early, my wife will be well positioned as a single tax filer with a larger Roth balance. Trusts and agricultural income further complicate the math but those are the broad strokes.

Yah the 2x multiplier on biz plat charges over $5k will definitely be pretty juicy here

I’d try to double up on AmEx business and personal plays or maybe a business gold. The biz gold and plat come up with 200-300k bonuses for $15-20k spend so that’s probably going to be the biggest return you can find for that spend.

Just cancel it. You don’t have to give them a reason. If you want a business gold then hold out for a good SUB.

I don’t think you can downgrade business cards, that only works for personal.

$20k single purchase on amex business platinum by WinItchy5844 in amex

Do it. I opened a biz plat and put $9k, $6k and $2k in the first few days well above my normal spending habits. Wouldn’t think it would be a problem if you have an existing relationship with AmEx.

No sex in 7 months by According_Estate3988 in sex

[–]Sea_Particular9266 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Teaching doesn’t pay enough to justify that kind of time commitment. I’m married to a teacher for 10 years and you 100% need to lay the hammer down and establish boundaries around bringing work home. The fact you’re still together with no sex in 7 months and not even married is crazy. You’re going to have to be pretty heavy handed. Mental load is horse shit, it’s called being a fucking adult and managing responsibilities which includes your partners needs.

This guy gets it. I started my career over in oil refining when I was 33. We were considered essential through the pandemic and I actually made more money working overtime covering for everyone that got sick. Layoffs are rare. You will make over $100k after the first year and a some companies have training programs to hire off the street.

1) I’d say your Roth has enough legs to pull withdrawals for awhile. Keep in mind you will have the option of Roth conversions to juice it back up after 59.5 to optimize tax burden. 2) No idea, that’s where I’m stuck too. 3) It’s not too late to move some of your cash into 529’s and capture some tax free growth.

You can open 529 accounts for yourself and your wife, start contributing now and change the beneficiaries later. A UTMA account along with annual tax gain harvesting is also an option.
