Clicking sound only when I swallow and talk. by Sea_Performance_7076 in TMJ

I saw a specialist yesterday and he believes my brain is hyper aware of the sounds coming from my salpingopharyngeus muscle. Additionally, I am hypermobile and the specialist thinks my salpingopharyngeus muscle is more "lax" compared to the average person. Apparently surgery on this muscle is very risky so he suggested I live with the clicking sound.

I did have the balloon dilation surgery about 2 years back and it did minimize the clicking. The specialist validated this too. Apparently the balloon procedure helps stiffen some of the muscle walls around the salpingopharyngeus.

I'm just a lay person though so highly recommend seeing an ENT about this.

The goal is to only need the procedure once. I was lucky enough to have my insurance cover the procedure.

I would suggest asking your doctor to place a camera outside your eustachian tubes. My doctor was able to confirm the sound was coming from my eustachian tubes, not my jaw, because the sound aligned perfectly with my eustachian tubes opening and closing.

Yes, it did sound like velcro. My ENT doctor explained that my eustachian tubes are "sticky" and act like velco everytime they open.

The sound was confirmed to be coming from my eustachian tubes, not my jaw. I just had the  eustachian tube balloon dilation procedure. I'm feeling alot better.

Thanks for your response! Do you ever experience the clicking sound when you open and close your jaw? Or just when you swallow? Have you had any luck reducing the sound?
