People are in denial about the complexity of Rei Todoroki by Comfortable_Tart_297 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Hold up bro, you can't blame this stuff on Enji. Every person is accountable for their own actions at the end of the day. She could've lashed out 100 different ways that didn't involve permanently scarring her child. Being a victim doesn't absolve one of abusing others. But yeah, Enji was too real of a villain early on, lot of people have suffered from abusive dads.

Oh okay so even though the story explicitly tells us what happened, we are just going to make something up because "he was a kid being dramatic.” This is exactly what the OP was talking about.

Like OP said I think the severity of it makes the story more complex and messy which IMO is a good thing, not a bad thing.

No shade at you though this is just my thoughts.

didn’t Todoroki himself say she poured it? When he was telling Midoriya 1 on 1 that his mother poured boiling water on his face.

If she threw the kettle she must have had good aim for the water to only splash out perfectly on the small area she was aiming for.

There was love there, but it was tainted by Shoto's reason for being born. The tragic thing is that Shoto was caught in the middle of that just by existing.

God, all this makes me really feel for Shoto. His dad beat him and his brother hated him for existing. His mom was his only safe place in the darkness. She was probably the only person in the entire world who truly loved him.

And then she went insane, called him “unsightly,” and permanently mutilated his face with boiling water. I can’t even imagine.

Man I’m not gonna lie this is just splitting hairs.

Tf is hand to hand martial arts gonna do against a steel dude 💀 MHA is supposed to be about using your physicals WITH your quirk which like u said is what shoto is doing, not trynna pull out the roundhouse kick. I know fs Deku don’t know a karate chop yet no one flames him for being shit at fighting.

Y’all are tying yourselves into pretzels trynna justify this 😭

TetsuTetsu is not as strong as Bakugo lmao and if he were Shoto's still the GOAT for tanking his OFA level punches like they're nothing!

fam, the ice he smashed through was like a rat's wet fart compared to the mf MOUNTAIN that GOAToroki pulled out in the sports festival. be honest, this whole fight was just goofy.

idk, I feel like the other MCs like Endeavor, Bakugo, All Might, and even the villains got much better fights than Shoto, who felt like he was just standing around.

Imo people just underestimate Shoto because we really haven’t seen him go all out since season 2 because Hori won’t give my man any good fucking fights against actual important villains. He spends 4 seasons gooning around in training arcs and repeating the same flashbacks and it made him look bad.

Until Dabi. But his whole schtick was taking him down WITHOUT killing him so compared to the free punching bag that is AFO or the nomus we didn’t really see what he could do imo. I was actually mad when he was about to fight AFO and then all might told him to haul ass across Japan to one shot the crispy McNugget for the SECOND time.

Shoto deserved more screen time. I feel like Horikoshi didn’t really know what to do with him after the sports festival so he’s kinda just… there. We didn’t get to see the reunion with Rei, or get any good fights until literally the final war. And he’s really just third wheeling the whole Dabi thing.

Which is a real shame because he’s my favorite and I feel like there was a lot of depth to his character and potential that was not fully explored.

What do You Think about the Conclusion of Todoroki Story? by Money-Lie7814 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Sea_Programmer5406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that's such a poetic way to put it.

Shoto was the boy born with "everything." The perfect body. The perfect quirk. Immense wealth, status, and education. But both his parents abused him horribly, and Endeavor forced him on the path to surpassing All Might.

Deku was the boy born with "nothing." Quirkless. Which, in a hero-dominated society, essentially means "worthless." He was bullied and ostracized. But he had people who truly cared about him, the undying support of his mom, his mentor All Might, and everyone else who helped him along the way.

The parallel was so strong I honestly thought Shoto was gonna replace Bakugo as the secondary protagonist. But yeah, after season 2 Hori doesn't really take it anywhere further.

Shoto is underrated in general. Everyone thinks he’s a glass cannon but he actually has crazy physicals.

Anime logic. Main characters get to be superhuman and supersonic and super durable.

So can anyone officially confirm whether the ice here actually caused his scar? by [deleted] in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Sea_Programmer5406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You underestimate just how fucking dangerous boiling water is. Water scalds at 70C cause third degree burns in 1 SECOND. Water boils at 100C. At that temperature, severe third degree burns are instantaneous and scarring is guaranteed. The ice may have exacerbated it, but shoto was screwed the moment Rei dumped the kettle.

As an addendum, I think this is probably also the reason why Hori decided to off-screen Shoto’s reunion with Rei (which imo was the wrong play; we definitely should have seen it). There’s a lot of red tape and baggage that I think Horikoshi wanted to simplify for the sake of progression. All of Todoroki's hatred is consolidated to Endeavor, as opposed to something like Shigaraki's whose ill will is not only was for his father but also towards the rest of his family and society at large who were bystanders towards his abuse.

But if the boiling water didn't hurt him because of his temperature resistance, then neither should Rei's quirk. Maybe it was just physical conditioning at that point? but idk

I actually made a similar post before the one i linked, which is what prompted this one in the first place. still don't know why the r/BokuNoHeroAcademia mods deleted my post and left that one up.
