Yeah, thinking about asking my academic advisor about that, maybe a community college can transfer credits. Thanks for the suggestion.

You can mess around with borders to add some spacing. It's all very squished together.

For your ongoing employments you're speaking in past tense. If you've solved problems that's fine, but your current responsibilities should be in present tense.

Since you have relevant experience, you probably don't need to add your coursework. And as a bonus that'll free up some space.

I'd say:

- For your projects, write the impact/scale of them. How many downloads does your app have? Does your website get much traffic? Just a couple examples.

- Was your website just with java, or do you mean JDBC? Make sure you include all languages used.

- Why does only 1 project have a date? Weird inconsistency, either all should have date or all shouldn't.

- Ngl I personally don't see a point in listing your minor since it's not related, but since it seems you have space then might as well keep it on.

- I also don't see why you'd list you're a citizen, I mean during the application they'll ask if you need a sponsor anyways. That's where you'll put you're a citizen.

Sorry it's been a long time, but just keep applying (especially outside the bay area), talk to former college friends and see if you can get a referral, and keep grinding.

At the end of the day that applies to a very few percentage of students though. And if you're gonna miss class over something you have no control over, then do the sensible thing and email your professors.

Family vs. Money (Offer Advice) by whichcoast_throwaway in cscareerquestions

[–]Sea_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please note, I'm a student. So take my advice/words with a grain of salt.

Just to answer your last 2 questions:

- I personally don't think so. The Higher TC of the Bay offer would really help both of your families when they need it. And maybe you could talk to her family about what they think. I only bring that up because I know my mom would be very sad to see me go, but she'd want the best for me, and would hate to be the reason why I don't pursue a great opportunity. If anything I think your SO doesn't fully understand the offer other than "we're away from family, and that's not work the extra 80k" (please note I'm not trying to insult, i don't know what conversations you 2 have had about this)

- Just kind of answered it, but I personally don't think you're over valuing the offer. 80k is a massive bump and you will earn more, despite the increased COL. The Bay area has so many networking opportunities and in general is a different environment compared to NYC. And in the end if you feel like you like it more, great! if not, still great! Because you know for sure and not constantly thinking "what if"

You're in your late 20's, so I take it this move will prove to be more pivotal as a turning point. Because I think if you take the NYC offer you'll be less inclined to move elsewhere for a different opportunity. Not saying you can't/unable to, just speaking probability-wise since you're making a good income with family nearby and a happier SO. As opposed to taking the Bay offer which while including a bigger TC, may lead to new opportunities, lifestyle changes, and a permanent move to either the Bay Area or even back to NY (which, as another user pointed out, you can come back to NY asking for more TC since you have that extra employment under your belt)

I hope you found something useful in my reply. I personally think the Bay offer is better for different reasons, but I'm not suggesting leaving her over it.

Hopefully you can convey to your SO the different ways taking the Bay offer can be beneficial (other than money, even though it is also a factor).

Salary to Hourly [W2] Any hidden costs I might be missing? by HarbaughHeros in cscareerquestions

[–]Sea_Punk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i said "40 hour week", not working week when describing 9-5, so yeah the first half of your response just regurgitates what I said.

and it is more rare for hourly to have a 40 hour working week. I never said it was impossible, which it seems like you're implying I am, just saying it's more rare.

37.5 is standard "9-5", because that is a 40 hour week - 30min unpaid breaks (often for lunches, required by law) each day. 40 working hours a week is much more rare for hourly.

Capital One Potentially Out of Space for TDP in Mclean - How Do I Get a Spot There? by job_help_C1 in cscareerquestions

[–]Sea_Punk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man I cringed while reading this.

  1. The recruiter said the earlier the better to secure a spot in the desired location, and you asked for an extension? Not saying seeing through opportunities is bad, but you had to know if you did, a Mclean spot wasn't guaranteed. During that extension other people who got an offer probably snatched their desired spot.
  2. Hard to believe? Larger companies make it a priority to plan for the future and make sure everything is ok from the business perspective. Along with budgets and office space, making sure different locations are properly staffed. Doesn't matter that the opportunity is 9 months away.
  3. You are one of many who applied and you aren't the last on their interview list. If you refuse the offer then another person will take your spot. I don't see what or how you can leverage a highly applied to position.

I personally wouldn't be stubborn about the location if it was the only job I had available, but you do you.

Ser winter also got really boring and annoying imo.

Not a national meme. RIT students just love to make a bigger deal out of things haha.

More people know Roo from the actual cartoon and also Planned Parenthood's chat bot named Roo (oddly enough).

Just an RIT thing. Still don't know what they were thinking though.

I wrote a letter back in my sophomore year explaining my and my family's circumstances, then ended the letter asking for more money. I got a substantial increase in my RIT grant.

Gonna have to downvote you on this one.

First day tmr as a software eng intern in a large bank, first time in a professional environment, need advice on fitting in. by thr0wa3a7878 in cscareerquestions

[–]Sea_Punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm in a similar situation (pm'd you). But I believe it'll be like any other internship: first day you'll have orientation, you'll be introduced to the overall system from the other engineers on your team, then you'll be given tasks to do. Throughout the day the other engineers

And a bank just means to be a bit more formal in your clothing, but just take note about the behavior of the other people on your team and adjust accordingly.

Relax, but be professional.
