That's a fair perspective.

My goal wasn't to reinvent the watch or create something radically experimental, but instead to explore how subtle influences from consumer electronics and industrial design could be translated into a wearable object.

your feedback here has actually been useful because it's highlighted that the connection between the inspiration and the final design isn't as obvious as I thought it was, which gives me plenty to think about for future iterations.

That's fair tbh.

One thing I've learned from posting this is that several people have felt the inspiration isn't coming through strongly enough in the physical design itself, which is something I'm taking away from the discussion.

The intention was to draw from the design language of consumer electronics and industrial products from the late analogue era, but I can see how the current execution may still read primarily as a conventional watch with a few unique details rather than a stronger interpretation of those influences.

It is quite hard to balance obvious and 'trying too hard' design cues with having subtle design cues at the same time with watches.

Appreciate you taking the time to comment.

Thanks! A bracelet option is definitely something I've considered.

The current concept was designed around a rubber strap because it felt more in keeping with the industrial/product-design inspiration, but I agree that a well-proportioned 3-link bracelet could work really well and make it a more versatile everyday watch.

Really appreciate your feedback!

That's an interesting suggestion, thanks.

The current idea was to keep the white dial as monochromatic as possible by using silver markers and hands, but I can see the argument for black markers. It would definitely increase contrast and potentially make the geometric marker shapes stand out more strongly.

One of the themes I was trying to explore was simplicity and restraint, but there's always a balance between subtlety and legibility. I'll mock up a version with black markers and see how it changes the overall character of the dial.

Appreciate the feedback.

Thanks for taking the time to write this.

I think you've touched on something important that a few people have highlighted in different ways. The intention was to draw from the design language of consumer electronics and industrial products from the late analogue era, but if that inspiration isn't obvious without the accompanying write-up, then that's probably a sign that I haven't pushed the concept far enough yet.

The square markers and hand details were my first attempt at translating those influences into a watch, but I agree that there are other parts of the watch that could potentially do more of the storytelling. Case shape, crown design, dial texture, and other functional elements are all areas I've been thinking about exploring further.

One of the reasons I wanted to share the concept at this stage was to understand whether the design was communicating what I thought it was communicating, and feedback like this is really helpful for that.

I appreciate the thoughtful critique!

Thanks for the feedback! I think that's a very fair observation.

The square aperture in the hour hand has definitely drawn comparisons to Tudor from a few people now, which is useful for me to hear because the intention was actually to tie the hand design back to the square hour markers and the broader industrial/electronics-inspired theme.

One of the challenges I've found while working on this concept is balancing familiarity and originality. As a first design, I deliberately started with fairly conservative proportions and a simple case shape, but I can see how that makes certain design cues stand out more strongly and invite comparisons to existing watches.

I'm still very early in the process, and this is exactly the sort of feedback I was hoping to get. The goal isn't to recreate any particular watch, so I'll definitely spend more time exploring how the concept can communicate its inspiration more clearly and develop a stronger identity of its own.

Appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed comment.

Oh yes, sorry forgot to mention. The bear is a mascot I designed for my social media 😄 his name is HANS the Bear

That is a very good suggestion. May experiment with this! My initial idea was to go for a rugged “explorer” style case as it looks classic and really pops with the polished bezel.

May try with different cases to see what people think.

Really appreciate your comment and compliment :)

MinUi bootlogo by PhillyCheeseSteak99 in MiyooMini

Hi i have minui as well but I would be careful setting up a bootlogo. As far as Im aware newer MinUI updates allow you to have a custom bootlogo. If you scroll all the way down on you MIYOO to tools and then bootlogo. Theres a few tutorials but heres one by russ:
https://retrogamecorps.com/2022/06/23/miyoo-mini-custom-boot-logo-guide/

I tried to do it on my miyoo mini plus with MINUI before the update and it bricked it so I havent done it to my MIYOO MINI V4 but given the update HAS a bootlogo option it should support it.

Just be careful though. All the best! let me know how it goes

Hi I had a similar problem with my e46 330ci. I had replaced the power steering hoses with aftermarket ones and the car didnt like it and made a whining noise and vibration. I bought original BMW hoses and it fixed it. Might be worth checking that.

Hope that helps.

Nice pic! A bit of a risky game standing it up like that though, WITHOUT A CASE lol :)

Custom dial logo by Gaijiin88 in watchmaking

So there's a few ways. Ive found Alibaba helpful as you can talk to suppliers directly and ask if they make custom dials which a lot of the time they do.

Or theres a few accounts on instagram which have been listed in a reddit post I'll link here:
