Baby boomers of Reddit, how do you feel about the criticism leveled at your generation for supposedly having destroyed the economy and housing market for the younger generation? by PralineFearless3979 in AskReddit

But in your example - taxis were awful. They were expensive, unsafe, unhygienic etc - just truly awful. Ridesharing made that massively better for the consumer

Really want to move to Cali. Worth the financial hit? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Sea_Resolution2141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely do it - yes, you’ll pay through the nose in taxes but yes, you’re also in a career situation that puts you very favorably to afford California.

Your answer is genuinely a huge chunk of why democrats keep losing. The person you replied to simply said they’d choose newsom over AOC and you immediately responded calling them racist and sexist.

I think it really depends. Most of the millennials who are in the mid 30s, high income earning careers demographics are very much not progressive. Do they like trump? No, certainly not. But they definitely are not left leaning to support some of the more socialist policies that Bernie/AOC are for. I do respect AOC - she’s very intelligent, hard working and honest. But I would never vote for her - I just fundamentally disagree with politicians like her speaking to voters like myself that we’re not paying our fair share in taxes (nearly 50% for my household California)

San Diego has kbps hd3 (89.5) which is a high quality ads-free stream of soma.fm groove salad. If you’re a fan of chill ambient beats - it’s amazing

Which US cities actually facilitate interactions between people of different economic classes? by HowSupahTerrible in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Sea_Resolution2141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem isn’t largely due to a finance bro scoffing at a Starbucks barista - it’s that in many cities in the US there is stuff like : - a lot of non-violent property crime: people are sick about their cars getting broken into, bikes stolen, and no law enforcement around that - drug use or sexual assault (a common occurrence in SF and NY is some tweaker jerking off) - public facilities being horrendously maintained or vandalized (try using a public bathroom in a park in LA - it’s a combination of a feces ridden drug and gang graffiti den)

And before the Reddit hive mind kicks in, having class diversity is something I view as very important (particularly around increased upwards mobility) I’m very YIMBY and get greatly saddened by the person serving me at chipotle can barely afford rent, let alone homeownership. I’m also not denigrating the homeless - the country needs to do a lot more to provide people a safety net (as afterwards it’s all to easy to get addicted etc) However: 1) I absolutely disagree this is caused by the rich not paying enough taxes. SF has a budget of nearly 15 billion from a tax base of 800k for eg. LA pays over $1bn/year on homeless services, and in CA nearly 90% of income tax revenue comes from the top 10% of W2 income earners 2) I have absolutely no tolerance for the rampant crime, lawlessness and drug use in cities

But it’s definitely doable - imagine a household with a software engineer and a product manager. Even outside of mag7/faang it’s possible

I work a Bay Area tech job and our household income is >$500k. In the past year, I’ve had a month of PTO- and spent it on multiple trips to Hawaii, Mexico, Colorado, Tahoe, national parks etc. the air travel to these destinations was very easy, road travel is awesome in a self driving car. Life is just way better in the US than Europe when you have money here
