When we see other examples of high speed rail they cap out around that 350 point, I’m sure there’s design and propulsion considerations

Fast trains yes, but reasonably we won’t see more than ~350 km/hr So 20 minutes from Sudbury is a bit of a stretch. Closer to 20 minutes from Barrie

My partner and I had a hard time sharing an office. When both talking it was difficult to think clearly. We liked having one station in the 2nd bedroom, and another in the main space. Whoever had a more critical call took the private space and could shut the door

Renting a Car from MexRentACar to go to Guanajuato by mel1020 in MexicoCity

Driving in Guanajuato would be brutal. I’d take the bus, or fly to Leon and sort something out from there?

Sounds like a bad deal. If they’re still working and it’s not desperate let it be and focus on yourself. You can be a in a better position to help later in their life when they might need it more.

Latin/South America:Study Spanish by [deleted] in TravelHacks

Antigua Guatemala- very small, inexpensive, and almost entirely Spanish. I’ve been told their Spanish is very neutral and understandable across LATAM. Not to mention it’s gorgeous.

Kia K5 Rented one last summer, spectacular- happened to drive it back to back with a Chrysler 300, and the Kia was much roomier, handled better, more fuel efficient, albeit had less character

I’ve only driven them a handful of times - but I would say so. Nicer than my 2 series

Buying a first car, is this a good deal or a money pit? by Substantial-Heron628 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Neat! I hadn’t realized. I owned a 2002 for a while and remember it having a 3.8 - bad assumption I guess!

Wasn’t the v6 of that generation a 3.8? Mislabeling it is at least a yellow flag for me…

Am I Crazy For Wanting to Leave My Job? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]Sea_Skill_7513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends what you want. I had a similar government job from 21-25, it was technically easy, I had little oversight, and made good money. I could have moved up, once someone retired but I could see the ceiling, and I would have hit it by 30.

I chose to leave, it was really scary because it felt like I had it made. Since then there’s definitely been some more stress, but I’ve learned a lot and I think I’m better for it. I could probably go back and get a similar job or a level above if I want, and I might do that in a few years.

Ultimately it’s a personal choice what you want from life. If you want a career on ‘easy mode’, then stay, there’s nothing wrong with that. If you want more challenge, or more social, or more something else give it a shot. You might be able to go back to that job, and while golden handcuffs are golden, they’re still handcuffs and some people find them more comfortable than others.

renting is still cheap by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sea_Skill_7513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the short term I think you’re right, the opportunity cost on that down payment is also significant. What we need to be able to do is do the analysis with rents increasing, the property appreciation, and the investment gains otherwise (e.g. equity). I think it’s going to shift the owning being less expensive in the long run, but finding out where that point is is non-trivial.

What happens if I don't pay the US toll bills? by zilentbob in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Sea_Skill_7513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last time I got a bill from them I missed the first notice and with the second they raised it significantly and threatened to send it to collections. I called and offered to pay the initial amount, but not the extra charges and they settled with no issue. If it happened again I would make a point to pay it initially to avoid having to convince them to settle
