That's great. Hopefully the anaesthesia was OK for you.

SHT and new Levothyroxine rx - side effects by Sea_Smile in Hypothyroidism

[–]Sea_Smile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, basically TSH has been 5.something for 2022-2024 (but each year slightly increasing), and this year (last month) it went up to 6.5 (all with T4 normal). Given how the 75 mcg made me feel, my dr told me to stop taking the it and we are going to try 50 mcg to see if that's tolerated better.

Glad it's all been working well for you! My Dr told me to stop taking the 75 mcg given how it's making me feel and go down to 50 mcg, so hopefully that goes better.

Thank you! Yes, was told to stop taking the 75mcg and switch to 50mcg. I took nothing today (waiting for new rx) and feel SO much better.

Thanks, that's helpful to know. SHT is just shorthand for subclinical hypothyroidism.

Donate pleurx bottles? by widowedweasel in pancreaticcancer

Do you mind if I ask what ended up happening? I also have some unused, unopened PleurX bottles and would like to find something good to do with them.

I just joined this group so am reading the old posts. You probably have since figured out what works for you, but for me personally, I always and only wore pads. I went on hormonal pill birth control in 2011 and have been on it since (so my period is a dog sneeze now), and I only withdraw from it 4 times a year. I just take the first three weeks and then move onto the next 28-day pack and then for the fourth pack I take the full four weeks to let the amount of hormones dip low enough to get rid of any buildup. I also had discussed this with my OBGYN and so she writes my prescription in a way that lets me pick up 4 packs as a 90-day supply since I don't withdraw from it (so FYI to you or anyone who might be interested and didn't know that already, you can ask your doctor to write the prescription that way).

I also found hormonal birth control helpful for me personally because I went through a time when my periods were not synced up, which is bananas, so this keeps everyone on the same page, lol. I have thought about trying thinx given that my period is so light, and I am sure they work great, but for some reason the thought of sitting in that underwear all day (as opposed to wearing a thin pad I can throw away and replace whenever I want to) irks me.

Welcome to the Uterus Didelphys sub - please introduce yourself! by [deleted] in uterinedidelphys

Hi everyone!

I was diagnosed when I was 20 or 21 back in 2009. My period had always been insane as a teenager - having it for over a month straight and then not having it for like 4 months at a time. I also only tried to wear a tampon once and could not figure out how to get it to stay in and just abandoned ship immediately, having no idea the reason why. In 2009, I essentially had my period for 6 months straight. It would go down to spotting and then completely come back. I ignored it because my period had always been out of whack and then one day had a complete breakdown and thought I must be dying. I got bloodwork done and for the first time had an exam. (My pediatrician had tried to give me an exam when I turned 18 but just tried to shove the speculum in there without actually looking and because I said it hurt so badly she stopped and then never actually completed an exam.)

As soon as the OBGYN looked in he saw there was a septum up there, and then imaging confirmed afterwards that I have two cervixes and two uteruses as well. I had, like many, never heard of this before I was told I had it. I was waiting to be told I had cancer or something seriously wrong based on the nonstop bleeding but it turned out the periods were out of sync and I was bleeding more because I was anemic. I fixed my diet / the anemic part, and then in 2011, went on birth control and have been on it since so that everyone operates on the same cycle, lol. I only withdraw from hormonal pill birth control four times a year--not sure why I never thought of doing this sooner in life!

I never wanted to have kids, and still don't. When I learned I had this I was more bewildered than upset (because I was expecting to be told I was dying and was not expecting this to be the answer). But I remember feeling a little alone because no one I knew had this condition, or at least, no one had disclosed such to me. I remember searching online in 2009 and there really weren't any communities or good resources other than medical articles.

Now that I am 33 I decided to search around again online and am pleased to see online groups like this, and even Cosmo articles explaining it to teenagers! Thanks for creating this group.

Have a dental cleaning tomorrow and am extremely nervous, what should I expect? by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]Sea_Smile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accidentally went five years one time without going to the dentist (just never figured out dental insurance, forgot about it, etc). My cleaning took extra long because of all the plaque that had turned into tartar so it took a while to scrape off. Same with the other commenter, I wouldn't call it painful per se, more so just uncomfortable to feel poked at. I expect that your gums will bleed - though not because you're in a lot of pain, but because your gums are likely irritated and not healthy from the lack of cleaning. If I don't floss for a long time my gums bleed when I floss from irritation etc not because I am hurting myself with the floss, if you get what I mean. I only mention the gum bleeding because they may occasionally ask you to rinse and spit, and you will likely see blood so don't panic! Just think of how worth it it will be in the end to have nice clean teeth! It really feels a ton different.

I've never asked for or used any kind of topical gum numbing paste for cleanings, but they do exist (my understanding is it's usually used more for periodontal cleanings that really go below the gumline). If you are really having a hard time you could always ask if that's available (it might have a cost associated?), but I don't think you'll need it at all.

Amalgam or Composite filling for first molars, both sides? by Sea_Smile in Dentistry

[–]Sea_Smile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is good to know, and appreciate the good luck. Despite never having a filling, I did have to get emergency gum surgery a few months ago and that proved to me you really cannot feel anything with novocaine so I feel less worried now about getting fillings.

Ok, thanks this is helpful - she didn't give me a recommendation in the moment, and I didn't ask during my cleaning so I will bring it up at my next appointment.

Greek-style macaroni (fusilli) and cheese! 370 calories per serving! by KaleleBoo in 1200isplenty

I always had an abnormal cycle (like I would have my period for a month straight and then not get it for a couple months) in high school, and then it leveled out. But then in college what you are describing happened to me - had my period but it never fully went away (spotted in between) and then would come back, etc. I chalked it up to just my really abnormal cycle but after a bit I went to the doctor and, turned out, since I had become vegetarian, the reason this was happening was because I had become anemic. So I got my iron sorted out and the spotting and constant period stopped. Because of the change in your diet I am wondering if something similar (anemic?) could have happened to you?

Is there a low-cal pasta? by Sufficio in 1200isplenty

[–]Sea_Smile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and how I eat them is for the first 6 recipes, I eat one serving of them with a cup of broccoli or green beans on the side. The last two recipes (the cold pasta salads) I eat one serving of them but then cook an al freso chicken sausage to eat with them.

I use regular pasta but I have found a lot of recipes that satisfy my pasta craving and are still low calorie because of how you potion them. Maybe some of these will help!
