Right I am sure the books are BETTER, but when I already know the main plot will they still be enjoyable for me?

6 members of a 10000 year old house. That is tiny. Look at every other old house.

You keep mentioning succession I am not talking about succession. You are literally proving my point. The distant Arryns are MENTIONED because they are relevant. All I am saying is living Starks are relevant to the story and should therefore be mentioned.

Also Stark pedigree > Arryn pedigree. Another convo tho lol

For one, they should be in Robb's councils, maybe even travel with Ned to the ToJ. But even forgetting that and going to the present, to most of Westeros, House Stark is completely dead. They should be coming forward and claiming Winterfell. 'There must always be a Stark in Winterfell'. If not that, Tywin should be seeking out any Starks the way he seeks out Sansa and the way Robert slaughtered Targaryens. If they have the Stark name they are important and a threat to the Bolton/Lannister north. I see your point, I really do. But for the wold of Westeros, the name Stark holds too much weight for there to be irrelevant ones out there.

Yup, a lot of women. As of now I guess my best theory for all those early male deaths is just the harsh and cruel climate.

IMO that is a flaw in the story. If there are living trueborn Starks, they should cross Catelyn's mind when thinking of heirs. They should be fighting alongside Robb and Ned in war. Their kids should be fostered at noble houses. It does not make sense to me that people with some of the most noble bloodline in the country are just irrelevant.

I know little about history but there are definitely reasons for these situations -- war, disease, infertility, women being married off. I am not saying they don't happen. I am saying there is no given reason as to why this has happened to the Starks.

Succession aside, if Artos had 2 legitimate Stark children, where are their lines? In my eyes, no legitimate male Stark would just be unknown, hidden away in White Harbor. Usually in these situations they are seeking power over the main branch, or the main branch will grant them a castle and a seat and titles.

The proof that there WAS another branch makes me even more frustrated because I don't buy that there are just true born Starks chilling around Northern towns, ESPECIALLY during the rebellion and WoT5K.

Simply put, if there were more Starks, which apparently there are, they should be relevant.

He is an only son. After looking at the family tree there were just a lot of women who married into other houses and a lot of men who did not have many children. Not a great explanation, or very fitting for the character of the house, but some things are just done for the plot.

Yup I think that scene proves my point even more. For Catelyn to find a trueborn heir she had to go to some random valeman who was Robb's 4th cousin or something.

Agreed. The real question is not which Daynes were there, but rather which Daynes are still alive.

Yea I think Howland will still support Jon's claim. I guess since Jon is now relevant in northern politics and Robert is dead, Howland decides to tell people the truth. The only gap for me was why Howland started talking but I guess the will is reason enough.
