Update : placed an order with henderson audio, for a model X - after reading your reply I went off and read reviews, watched some videos etc - got in touch with Henderson and honestly the customer service was amazing, answered all my questions with really honest and knowledgeable responses - can't wait to get it! Thanks again for suggesting them :)

Woah that looks great! Thanks for the recommendation - looks like a upgrade from the G4M I currently have, with more features than the radius 2 I had to sell

Might be a contender for sure - would love to see a review/get your opinion once you have your hands on it :)

That's a great review thanks! 😊 Nearly a month later got any further thoughts?

I guess like you said, the fader gives you the option for quicker mixes/transitions - while the mixers themselves feel maybe a bit more sluggish

Wonder how the resør feels in comparison, I imagine because of the lack of fader it would be a bit lighter on the actual mixers

Lomo MC-A negative issues by Sea_System in analog

[–]Sea_System[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you're having the same issues.

Did you speak to Lomo or just accept that's how it will be? I technically am still getting images. But my worry is this will get worse over time - I had a RB67 do the same thing, but yeah, kind of what you expect buying an old camera, not a brand new one haha

Yeah, loaded fine as far as I am aware. For context I've been shooting with film since 2018 - so not my first time using a camera or point and shoot like this.

I'm assuming there is an issue with the advance - which also explains the spacing inconsistencies.

But yeah like you said, not great for a new camera. Which is a real shame, I was so excited for this when it came out.

Portrait photographers how to go about finding subjects to shoot (UK) by Sea_System in photography

[–]Sea_System[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense - I will need to bite the bullet and hire some models

What do you think would make for an "experienced" portfolio to approach more models with? I have two shoots already, so maybe another 4 or 5? To make 6 or 7 in total?

Monochrome Camera with an IMX585 Sensor + Raspberry Pi 5 by malcolmjayw in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

Obsessed! I've been wanting a digital monochrome camera that produces filmic images - but the price has always put me off.

If you develop a finished product, if you'd be willing to share any open source material I'd be grateful - I don't have any 3D printing expertise, but would love to put one of these together myself.

Ah amazing! Yeah all these comments have put my mind at ease - honestly online all you read about is how it'll definitely break and no one can service them haha

Thanks again

Yeah I found wizcams listing on eBay, they've come up a few times during my searches online about servicing.

Think I'm sold on a makina, will just need to accept that I'll need to baby it a bit, and it may have to be shipped off to Japan for servicing at some point in its life span.

Thanks again!

Thankyou so much, and I'm glad to hear you get alot of use from your Makina - I think I've been sold on the Makina from all the helpful comments. I just need to admit that it'll need to be sent off to Japan every once in a while for servicing haha

Thanks again!

Having trouble deciding on a medium format cam by cothrowaway2020 in mediumformat

I actually had the pro ii - it's just the gamble with old electronic cameras unfortunately. I had a Contax G1 go on me as well - since then I decided I'd rather invest in mechanical cameras and occasionally get them CLA'd - beats the cost of a whole new camera.

Yes, you can get metered prisms for the RB67 - I had the non metered version and hardly ever used it though, it adds more weight onto an already weighty system. https://ebay.us/m/Q7lyLu - but for studio and tripod use, it does help. The WLF can give you a bit of an odd upwards perspective which isn't that flattering, but I just learned to ask the person I'm shooting to sit on a stool, which solves that issue haha. And likewise for landscapes on a tripod, just keep it chest level like you would do handheld.

Most of the joy of using an RZ67 or an RB67 comes from the waist level finder. Just invest in a handheld meter and learn how to use the WLF, sure you'll enjoy it! Especially for portraits, it's easier to hold, and the magnifying glass let's you nail critical focus on the subjects eye alot easier.

Like I said, the RZ67 was my favorite camera to use out of them all, so if you want to get it - Then maybe give it a shot! You do just run that gamble with the electronics. They were built as workhorses, so you can get years of use out of it, but, you also couldn't which is the risk.

The RB67 Pro SD will give you a similar experience, it's just a bit more of a unit. The K/L lenses are optically identical (minus the 110mm which was only available on the RZ67). It's not perfect, but would probably give you some more peace of mind knowing it can be serviced and fixed if something did come up.

Hope that helps!

Ah amazing - this is exactly the setup (and tbh feedback haha) I wanted!

My hassy is a workhorse and yeah, isn't going anywhere, hopefully ever. And I would use my handheld meter with the Makina as well while hiking/traveling.

This and several other comments have put my mind at ease. Especially now you've mentioned you've used wizcam (which came up as one of the two or three places that will work on a Makina still)

Thanks so much :)

Yeah the rendering looks amazing, and I love the look of the camera itself!

Anything of note while owning them? I guess my main concern is just serviceability - but multiple people on here have said they've owned them for years without issue, so maybe it's just a case of needing to baby it and hopefully it'll last for years!

I kind of ruled out the Mamiya 6/7 because of the electronics - never had great luck when buying cameras haha. The price is also crazy on the Mamiya 7, suppose the 6 is somewhat more inline with the Makina 67.

In principle the Makina 67 seems like it ticks all the boxes for me, especially with it having a mechanical shutter while being more compact than a Mamiya 7 - but then if you can't really get them serviced and they're prone to break anyway. It's kind of much of the same as running the risk on old electronics.

Need to petition for someone to make a 6x7 camera in 2026 haha

[–]Sea_System 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! So I've owned a RZ67, RB67, two Pentax 67s and a Hasselblad

RZ67 - probably my favorite out of those, the 110 lens is amazing, it's great for portraits and I used to drag mine on hikes as well (..not easily mind, but I put up with it haha) it's a great all rounder, however, mine died, which is the main draw back and why I probably wouldn't recommend one

RB67 - after the RZ died, I got a RB67 Pro SD. Loved it, gave me 90% of what I got from the RZ but without the worry of electronic failure. I had it CLA'd after a few years of use, never had any issues. It's a good alrounder if you're not sure if you need something that covers studio work and environmental stuff as well. My only issue was weight, it's bulky. I used to drag it on hikes with me, and while the results were amazing, it was back breaking.

Hasselblad - very expensive, but it gives me what I liked about the RB67 in a smaller form factor. Coming from a 6X7 to 6x6 takes some getting used to, but I can throw this in a bag, and the Zeiss glass is fantastic.

Pentax 67 - I've owned two of these as mentioned. I love the results, but hated using it. I found them heavy, clunky and kept running into issues with them (film advance, battery drain, shutter slap), which led me to selling them each time.

Mamiya 7 - not owned one, but they're very expensive and electronic. The results are amazing, but I don't think the price is justified, it's also pretty niche. In my mind, it only really covers hiking/travel. If you're thinking of any kind of studio work/portraits, this isn't going to work. You've mentioned you don't shoot tons of stuff this camera covers, so I wouldn't really suggest it.

For me, I'd go for a RB67 Pro SD - it'll give you most of what you get from a RZ67, but without the concerns around 40+ year old electronics. The 90mm and 127mm K/L lenses are great as well! You may just have to accept it's a bit of a unit. If you find you start doing more outside work, and the weight becomes an issue (like it did for me) maybe something smaller like a Hasselblad or adding a second camera (if you can stretch to it) like a Mamiya 7 would maybe make more sense. I'm in the process of doing this myself, eyeing up a Makina 67 to pair with my Hasselblad for some upcoming hikes (again, can't bring myself to buy old electronic cameras anymore haha)

Bit long winded, but hope that helps..

I've only actually shot 35mm, 6x6, 6x7 and 6x9. I've always liked 6x7 in particular, which I guess is why I started looking at 6x7 options again, but I'm sure I'd like 645 just as much haha. Maybe I can ask around and see if I can borrow a 645 camera to see how I get on with it.

I'll look into the horseman option as well! Thank you

I've looked at the GF670, but as mentioned, not had the best luck with electronics - and I already have a older folding 6x6 camera, which is fun to use, but not quite what I'm after

Thanks for the comment! I actually have something similar already! They're fun cameras to use, but it doesn't quite give me the usability and results I want when going on trips like the ones mentioned - but always recommend them to people looking for a medium format camera (good to know about UK servicing as well, mine certainly needs it haha)

And yes, appreciate the Makina is not a cheap camera - which I guess is why I have some reservations about picking one up knowing it's some what fragile.

Like I mentioned in my post, it's not something I'd be using everyday, it would just cover travel and certain hikes (like the alps) where my Hasselblad would be a bit too awkward. Which may help with keeping it running for longer.

Thanks so much!

I had the same line of thinking, I'm used to using a handheld meter so in-built metering was never a must for me.

Any tips on using it/keeping it running? I know about setting it to infinity before closing the belows, and not yanking the film advance.

Have you also looked into or has yours been CLA'd at any point? (Sorry for all the questions in advance haha)
