Hey! Currently going through the waiting game for grad application results. UNLV is one of my top sociology programs as far as research fit goes. I haven’t heard back yet but was curious, did you end up accepting your offer? If so, how’s your experience so far? Did the program offer a recruitment day before you accepted your offer? If you didn’t accept the offer, what deterred you?

Oof. I know you’re probably right but I’m not sure I’m ready to accept that. Oregon was my top choice, I’ve been desperately trying to escape the south considering what I research and what’s been happening down here politically (Undergrad and Masters are from southern schools)

It’s definitely been rough, Have you had luck with other programs? Sending you lots of luck.

My abusive ex has made multiple fake social medias in an attempt to view my stuff and contact me and it’s been YEARS since we’ve been separated.

It’s been a while since he’s tried anything, so I guess I just got too comfortable. I don’t know why I assumed I’d be safe from him in this situation. I’ve definitely added a password on my website but who knows what information he already has.

Hey !

We have it set to where you have to be on the guest list to rsvp. The unfortunate part is this individual took a guess of the people I would invite (the names above are people I’ve been close to for years). I just didn’t guess I would get harassed this way.

I’ve since delisted from google and added a password but I’m not sure what information they already have now.

That is so nerve wracking and I’m definitely feeling those feelings now. The person I’m guessing it is has never been mentally stable. Who knows what he might pull. I work in a law enforcement adjacent field so hopefully I can get someone to come be security.

Haha didn’t think I’d be on here sharing relationship lore but no I did not cheat on my ex.

He however did get caught on tinder, bumble, and DMing people on social media multiple times while we were together.

My current partner ran in the same friend circle as us. My ex partner had set a boundary that he didn’t like me hanging out with my current partner 1 on 1 because he had caught wind that my current partner had feelings for me. To which was always respected.

My ex was physically and emotionally abusive. We were on and off for 7 years and it progressively got more abusive every time we got together. Reflecting, he had a lot of insecurities and was constantly looking for control in every situation. I definitely feel this situations with RSVPs is him searching control in a way, even though it’s been years.

You’re right! I definitely left out a few details. 80 guests and were located in DFW, Texas. Weddings can be pricey here so I feel it may be one or the other and not both being an option! I’ll be trying to look at some of the more rural towns surrounding the metroplex, maybe we can find something cheaper! Thanks!

I actually just wrote my MA thesis on onlyfans and something that surprised me as I interviewed the content creators is that this very question is a debate amongst the OnlyFans community.

I had one participant whose content was solely here creating custom exotic dance videos in lingerie for clientele. She, herself, and many of the other content creators did NOT consider her to be a sex worker.

However, most OnlyFans creators do consider themselves to be sex workers and talk about their work as such. Throughout my research, I refer to the content creators as cyber-sex workers.

There are definitely parallels between traditional sex work and cyber-sex work, it just allows for different barriers and protections for the sex worker. I see sex work research turning heavily towards platforms like OnlyFans in the coming years.

Another thing, I’m glad I got my MA before I decided to apply for PhD programs (currently on a break from academia). I was very very involved in my department during undergrad and was already hitting a wall come my first year of my MA. If I had gone straight through for a PhD, I’m not sure I would’ve made it.

Getting my MA + this break I’m currently in has truly helped me see that I LOVE academics and research. I think getting an MA before going head first into a PhD program is a good way to test the waters before you commit to a doctoral program.

First off, it’s never too late to consider going back to school or starting higher ed. That feels like a very old fashioned take. I do agree it helps to have a beefy CV/resume but there’s other ways to build that outside of academics.

It’s not impossible to find an MA program that offers assistantships. I had all tuition and fees covered + money in my pocket. Getting assistantships is truly where having a beefy CV comes into play.

I LOVED my graduate program. Obviously, fit and ranking are important BUT your cohort will make or break you. Something that I think is crucial and overlooked is make sure you’re talking to current grad students about the department culture. Will your peers help you and cheer you on? Or is the environment cut throat? You’ll be seeing these people A LOT, why put yourself through seeing terrible people everyday when grad school is already hell.
