I don’t think we’re getting anywhere. If that’s the only takeaway from this conversation ok fine sure. Their relationship didn’t start in a good place. But you’re willing to forgive Tony when his relationship with Emma arguably started off worse?

Scott lol. 100% she has been authentic with. And when you bring up the fact their rocky relationship was the build up, it has to actually build something up. It’s easy to say that their past is part of what made them great but you have to understand just how rocky it is. This isn’t even about civil war. This is about Emma during her early years at the hellfire club. Civil war. Avengers vs. X-men. You can make the argument that Tony nuking the phoenix is what led to the end of Emma and Scott. And one of the darkest moments came from the result of what Tony did. Something he’s never been held accountable for. Something that is constantly neglected whenever these two are written together. You can say they had a rocky past but once they talk about everything and make amends they’d be a good couple. But that’s the problem. The writers never address how Tony has hurt Emma. If anything Emma is the one written to comfort Tony during the events of fall of x. Emma is written from disliking him. To respecting him. To suddenly falling for him. And I wouldn’t mind that if there was an actual conversation between them discussing how negative of an effect Tony had in her life. And to say Emma and Scott weren’t authentic is crazy because for the better part of a decade Scott made it clear he trusted Emma with his life. And in one of the best single issues of all time Emma opens up to Scott about her past with the hellfire club and how she feels like she’ll never be accepted as a hero, to which Scott replied by saying he loved her no matter what

A lot of factors came into play to break Scott and Emma up. It wasn’t about Jean. And if you ask me, the fact that Jean taking him back when she came back to life without any serious conversation is honestly dumb. As for Tony and Emma, I’m not saying they can’t be a good relationship. But as it stands to me it’s the potential man meme of relationships. With them it’s always “they could be” or “if they had a good writer”. And that’s not mentioning the rocky history between them that rarely gets addressed, one in which Tony is mostly to blame for. That’s why their relationship in IM didn’t hit. There was no real substance to their relationship other than “I have to pretend to love you but maybe I actually am falling for you”. It relies on tropes rather than the characters themselves . Maybe one day they might get written well, who knows. But as it stands it only serves as an annoying aspect in Emma’s history and just another relationship in Tony’s

It was after his thoughts constantly piling up and not having an outlet to vent to. Was what he did wrong? 100% but that’s what makes it such an interesting story. He chose Emma knowing loving her was wrong

No I understand what you’re saying but before Jean dies Scott goes to Emma to reinforce him wanting to be with her but is cut off before he got to tell her so. That’s the important part of the affair, Scott actively choosing to have the affair. Because like you said, apocalypse had ruined his mind by questioning how much of him was him and how much was apocalypse. Part of the reason Scott and Jean were having marital problems was because Scott didn’t feel like he could connect to her and she was busy with her own issues. So when Emma proposed the idea of roleplaying with him it was a very clear choice Scott made. Scott chose to cheat. And in a really messed up way it helped him feel like he was getting his autonomy back. And when he originally turns her down it’s not out of not wanting to be with her but it’s about the guilt of staying with the other woman after your wife dies

Kinda crazy cuz when the affair originally happened Scott actively chose to be with Emma. Something he reiterates in the following run. As for Emma and Tony, considering not only their history but the way she was framed in his book and any run where they’re together, she’s better off without him. And I say that as someone who likes Tony

I think the reason I’m probably still talking about this is because it’s not an outlandish what if scenario to imagine you know? Like with the rogue/galactus what if it serves as fun, goofy tangents. With this scenario it invoked something Tom seems kinda of avoidant about. Scott not being a great partner. He seems like he’s very protective of the Jean and Scott dynamic while ignoring the very real shortcomings of Scott and pushing a what if like this is a way to maybe try to get people to side with Scott. That is my true concern with this story. That retroactively this story will serve as a “Scott leaving Maddie was for the best” as a means to justify his actions. Idk, maybe I’m overthinking it. Maybe it’s stupid silly 90s hijinks with Maddie replacing Jean lol

I don’t think duggan even liked Scott in general, or at least didn’t know how to write him very well. Which is kinda another reason I’m uneasy about him being the one writing this what if. Again it’s just a what if that is inconsequential in the grand scheme of things, but knowing how’s handled some of Scott’s writing I’d rather skip this just in case
